Will the First Fam get in the water when they visit Panama City Beach next weekend?
Free advice to the prez: get yourself and kids in the swimsuits and get in the water.
If there are pictures of the Prez gazing out over the Gulf in a suit and tie -- Nixon style -- people are going to be p.o.'d....
Let's make it a poll: will they or wont' they get in the water?
I think they will.
This thread includes a poll.
Poll voting is temporarily unavailable here. The discussion and replies remain available.

Will Obama take the plunge in Florida?
After reading Will Obama take the plunge in Florida? - CNN.com, I think it's a yes due to the symbolism. We can check out how good they look in their swimsuits too. Just hope they don't get rained out.
Sir Mix-a-Lot will be playing on Barry's boombox while they recline in their beach chairs.;-)

Maybe Barack should check the weather before he comes to PCB for the day. It is raining and expected to rain for most of their 19 hour vacation.

This is not a vacation. This is a photo opt and so I am glad that the weather is going to be rainy. Personally, I think his 20 + hour visit is a joke...he is proving nothing.

I never got the idea he was trying to prove anything. Just showing support for the area after a catastrophe and putting his actions where his talk is. He encourages people across the country to support the Gulf Coast economy. Whether you like it or not, that's what he is doing, even if it is symbolic.

How dare Barack help to put this area on the map.

Just a reminder to those who seem to have forgotten:
It was the local community that requested this visit. Not the WH imposing it on Panama City. Apparently, the TDC and CofC in Bay County feel it is a positive move for the area.

Do you really believe that his 10-15 minute photo opt on PC beach is going to bring back our vacation folks...perhaps a real stay, but not a "fly over visit". Now if Michele and her friends and her young daughter had made PC vacation destination rather than Spain, I might agree with you

I wasn't aware of that...I did remember when Michelle was there on her visit that she mentioned that it would be "nice" to come there for a vacation, and then she checked out a few tar balls and then I believe she flew on out so she could speak at the NAACP. So her visit was a short one. I guess the TDC and CafC in Bay carry a lot of WH weight, because the local financial burden to secure a Presidential visit, and also the national cost for the visit must be major. If it brings back all of the tourists I stand corrected. But we need to also remember that with schools starting, that this mid August time frame, is a a slowing down for our visiting guests anyway. Perhaps a visit earlier in the summer might have been better.

This area was popular and on the map long before Obama.

MSNBC reported a few minutes ago that the president and Sasha had just taken a swim in the gulf at Panama City Beach.

Ugly headline
Is it just me or is this headline a complete piece of crap?
President Obama won't take shirt off in front of cameras to swim in oil-ravaged Gulf waters
oil-ravaged? oil-soaked? That really helps a lot.

The leader of the free world's eye-candy abs are off limits to the public.
President Obama vowed to take a swim in the oil-soaked Gulf on Sunday but out of sight from the press and shutterbugs.

CNN says it was Alligator Point- which on my map, is more like St Andrews Bay/Grand Lagoon. Not exactly the Gulf, sort of in protected waters.
I know, I am splitting hairs.

No, you're right, the gulf is the gulf and the bay is the bay. Also that would be Panama City, not Panama City Beach.

I was in PC today and double reds were flying. He swam in that and permitted his child to as well?

I'd call that Panama City Beach - isn't everything west of the Hathaway Bridge PCB? Or does Panama City include that part of the beach?
At any rate, we have our answer - no, the Obamas will not swim in the Gulf.

Can you just imagine how much "fun" it is to go on vacation in Florida and have absolutely everybody in the free world waiting for you to take your shirt off, show off your beer gut, and pose for possibly the worst photo of all time: it's rainy, it's Alligator Point, it's 90% humidity... if he can get thru this "vacation" with a scrap of dignity, he deserves a week in Martha's vintyard.
SoWal Insider
To clarify: I don't know if he has a beer gut. I don't know if he has six-pack abs. But , don't ya know, one way or the other, it will be "The News."

I disagree.
The First Lady would be The News.

I think I know The First Lady well enough to know that ain't gonna happen. Barry was pretty adamant about "no shirt/no photo".

That's either elitist or sour grapes. Not sure which.

Me neither. Not sure what popularity brings...
