"A man walks through the crowd at the Ground Zero protest and is mistaken as a Muslim. The crowd turns on him and confronts him. The man in the blue hard hat calls him a coward and tries to fight him. The tall man who I think was one of the organizers tried to get between the two men. Later I caught up with the man who's name is Kenny. He is a Union carpenter who works at Ground Zero. We discussed what a scary moment that was for him. I told him that I hoped it did not ruin his day."
I say even if he was a Muslim so what? Should Muslims not take a stroll in the vicinity of "GZ" as some (not me) like to call it? What a bunch of despicable morons!

If just half of that is true, 9-11 should be renamed "Freaky Friday."

The attacks took place on 9/11
9+1+1 = 11
Each WTC Tower had 110 floors, which is a multiple of 11
* The aircraft which ultimately hit the Pentagon was American Airlines Flight 77. 77 is another multiple of 11
* American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane flown into World Trade Tower2, had 11 crewmembers. A total of 65 people were on Flight 11. 6+5 = 11
* The second plane, United Airlines Flight 175, hit the World Trade Tower 1 at 9:02 AM. 9+2 = 11
* 9/11 is the 254th day of the year. 2+5+4 = 11
* After 9/11, there are 111 days left in the year
*New York City (where the major attack occurred) consists of 11 letters
* New York was the 11th state admitted into the Union
*President Bush ordered flags to fly at half mast until 9/22, making an 11 day period of mourning
If just half of that is true, 9-11 should be renamed "Freaky Friday."
kOA,
I keep seeing the numbers 11 11 everywhere. What do you think it means:shock:

Is it "Repeat Day" on your Far Side Calendar?

If they back up the grand opening a year, it will be the 11th anniversary of the 9-11-01 craziness.

I watched the video posted on here and I never saw a "mob." I agree with Mango. What about Kenny who was the object of the whole thing as far as I could see? He seemed like a total gentleman. What did I miss? Maybe there is another video of this whole incident that is much more incriminating? All of the people on this who were more visible seemed very peace loving. Let's not forget this is why people fight for our country and why we are a civilized society. Like Mango said no one was burned in effigy. Most Americans don't know true intolerance in this day and age. Treat others as you want to be treated.

When I saw the video I was concerned for the safety of the man. It looked exactly like the bleachers of Chicago's Wrigley Field when a Cardinals fan needs to be escorted out of the stands for his own safety. Racist or not, folks saw the guy wearing a Muslim jersey and rooting for that team. What was it about his appearance that led folks to believe that?

I've known people who approve of that kind of behavior in a sports setting as you described, so I realize I shouldn't be at all surprised at the views expressed by some on this thread.

Well, leave it to the daughter of an United States Military Officer to know that that's Veteran's Day.

If you know people who accept that behaviour in sporting events, I shudder at that thought. Where I come from, it's wholly unacceptable and dealt with appropriately.
Do you know of the outcome of this video repoting incident in NYC?

The people I'm talking about are not friends in any way. I've found ways to distance myself from people like that.
As far as the outcome, I'm not sure what you mean, but I don't think anybody got hurt. Some looked foolish. Still there are all kinds of incidents like this popping up nationwide.

A Muslim Jersey?? The man was wearing a football cap with a logo and had on a Peurto Rican Necklace and white sports jersey; not to mention, the minute he spoke it was quite obvious from his hand motions that he was a New Yorker. It wasn't like he had a knapsack on and a possible bomb in it. My biggest concern was that he wasn't mauled by reporters. We don't even know if it was his appearance that pissed off someone. For all we know he could have bumped into someone. I suppose we all see what we want to see or what the media wants us to believe. This video has been a very enlightening example of this, and also that assumptions were made without even seeing the video.

For a little perspective.
This is not what the lower west side of Manhattan would look like if the much-debated Islamic community center were built two blocks from the World Trade Center site. This is what it looked like decades before the World Trade Center was even envisioned. This is its heritage.
For a little perspective.

Yes, a muslim jersey (metaphorically speaking). Just as the mob of Cubs fans ridicule the lone Cards fan in the stands the people in the video thought the guy was a Muslim based on his appearance- not based on the content of his character. So again, I ask-
What do you think it was about his appearance that led so many to mistakenly believe he was a Muslim? Mango, you said he was wearing a football cap with a logo, a Puerto Rican Necklace and white athletic jersey. So if it wasn't his attire then suddenly it becomes more plausible that it was a racial thing (I am not saying it was).
But an even better question-
Let's say the guy is a Muslim. Does that make it acceptable for the folks in the video to behave the way they did?
IMHO, the only thing more tragic than almost 4,000 people losing their lives because some brainwashed extremists sought the company of virgins is realizing that a majority of our citizens seem okay with it that in the biggest city in America in broad daylight in front of police officers and the media that someone could be in physical danger because of their religious beliefs.
