"A man walks through the crowd at the Ground Zero protest and is mistaken as a Muslim. The crowd turns on him and confronts him. The man in the blue hard hat calls him a coward and tries to fight him. The tall man who I think was one of the organizers tried to get between the two men. Later I caught up with the man who's name is Kenny. He is a Union carpenter who works at Ground Zero. We discussed what a scary moment that was for him. I told him that I hoped it did not ruin his day."
I say even if he was a Muslim so what? Should Muslims not take a stroll in the vicinity of "GZ" as some (not me) like to call it? What a bunch of despicable morons!

Geo, you are right about the Constitutional right of Beck to hold the rally but wrong if you think others will not use their Constitutional right to make asses of themselves by protesting it.

Beck will play to his base today and will likely make an ass of himself. Sharpton will play to his and likely make an ass of himself. And I will play with my kids at a birthday party and make an ass of myself.
I think all is well.

Thank you, they are both asses. You, not so much.

AggieB, correct. The ad was made long before A-B was sold. I didn't mean to sound like I was saying the sale tainted the message of the ad. Was just saying that I think it is a shame that A-B was sold to a Belgium company when it has such a rich American tradition and identity.

AggieB, Anheuser Bush..... Coincidence????

columnist Greg Easterbrook:
The people who attacked the United States on 9/11 might have called themselves Muslims, though clearly were breaking the tenets of their faith. All religions have produced a few murderous fanatics -- we don't hold this against the faith when Christianity or Judaism is involved.
Baruch Goldstein, raised as a Jew, used a machine gun to murder 29 Muslims in 1994 in Hebron on the West Bank. Goldstein was a monster, not a religious believer, and was breaking the tenets of the faith he claimed. No sensible person would say that because of Baruch Goldstein, synagogues should not be built on the West Bank.
Timothy McVeigh, who was raised as a Christian, murdered 168 people with a terrorist bomb in Oklahoma City, and it's clear to everyone he was breaking the tenets of his faith. Why can't we understand the same thing about the 9/11 killers? No one would object to a Christian church being built near the Oklahoma City terror bomb site.

Just to be fair, I don't think McVeigh was a Christian at the time of his death. I think he was more likely a secularist at time of his death. I say this because he chose the poem Invictus as his final statement. The last verse reads:
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
The same thinking applies though, he doesn't represent all atheist, agnostic or secular institutions. Nobody should object to a public school or a courthouse being built near the site of the Oklahoma City bombing site.

You wont see Christians around the world cheering when Muslims are murdered.
McVeigh renounced his faith long before his final act. Barack Obama was raised Muslim does that make him a Muslim now?

No, you won't see them, but they're there.

What? So you agree there's a difference?

AndrewG, very provocative.
After what I've seen lately I'm not sure you're correct- at least in the U.S.
Also- I believe that the folks cheering around the world when Americans are murdered do so because they're Americans moreso than they do so because they're Christians.

Freedom of religion means freedom of religion or it means nothing at all.Amendment 1 is a little more wordy than "freedom of religion."
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise thereof..."
No one in this argument is stopping Muslims from practicing Islam, and Congress isn't making laws about religion.

There's a difference in the amount of publicity. I'm sure plenty of Christians hate Muslims and would like to see them die. This is the beauty of being an atheist. I just sit high upon a hill eating popcorn  watching them kill each other. :banging::bicycle::boxing::whack::trainwreck: :violin: It doesn't get
any better than this.:chill:

One difference between Christians and Muslims as a whole is that Christians will quickly point and push out the extremist Christians when they start killing in the name of God. The Muslims don't seem to do that with their own extremists.
Christians have had a rough history and certainly don't appear nice and shiny without fault. (don't mean to offend anyone, but if the Jews had not killed Jesus when they did, he would have likely led some killing himself. He had just told his disciples to sell all their possessions to be able to buy weapons as they were about to go to war.) However, I don't think the New Testament of the Bible charges Christians to behead non-believers. The Qur'an does:
Qur'an 47:4 "When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly."
Divisions like religion, skin color, sexual orientation, etc, go against (though some may argue about the religion in this case) the very teachings of MLK, Jr and his speech he gave on this day many years ago. He was hoping for a day when we saw similarities in people, not differences.
