A question for those of you who consider yourselves Christian. How many consider yourself a Christian first and utmost, and a citizen of The USA second??

My church makes it very clear - they have the hierarchy carved for all to see.

God comes before Country.

But major caveat - that church does NOT follow most of the teachings so many claim as "christian."

Discrimination, homophobia, and racism have no place.

Charity, true honesty, caring for the less fortunate, and military and community service are all highly prized.

Christianity and Americanism are in no way in conflict - God just has a wider geography.

military service are highly prized....is thou shalt not kill ignored?

Ecclesiastes 3 (King James Version)

Ecclesiastes 3

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

My church looks for context and intent, it doesn't just clip out phrases.

Protecting/defending one's country & family and battling injustice and genocide are virtues.

They'd prefer you killed as few people as possible in the process, but know that sometimes there is no other option.

Bob some of you're latest posts are about evangelism, Jesus, and christians.
Are you just curious, stirring the pot, or about to die?

You aren't reading what I'm saying. It isn't an either/or, one just happens to come first on the list.

put another way, if the law of the land conflicts with your version of christianity, what do you do? are you a patriot or is god your co-pilot?

If you're planning to die, let us know. I'll send flowers, because it's the good "Christian" thing to do... ;-)

faith was left on the playground and we're engaged in some critical thought here. we are all about to die in the big picture.

Good question which demands a quick either or answer. In other words if you had to make a gut level choice, which would it be? I won't answer it only because I don't meet the qualifications. I'm off the hook.

we have a newbie governor, who in my estimation is a criminal. he favors christian schools and is putting public school funding and teacher benefits under attack. he chooses to unveil his state budget at a church, if you don't live in florida, maybe you missed it. my question stands, god before country? christian faith before country?

That would certainly explain our governor.

In that rare instance, I change the law.

But my "version" isn't the same one people are constantly squawking about.

I think there are much bigger issues to focus on than homosexuality and abortion and who is going to hell because of what God they believe in.

Jesus said: ?Give to Caesar what is Caesar?s, and give to God what is God?s." If you love God you will have the proper respect for government. Paul said in Romans: ?Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God.?
