How do you feel about the Governor trying to keep his email secret?

Guess Gov. Scott doesn't plan on making any changes with regards to Government in the Sunshine. Can't believe the open records folks aren't raising all kinds of hell on this. Where is Representative Gaetz's in this matter?
Not sure I disagree with Scott's stance on this 100%. Staff communication, government business etc.. i fully understand. Travel and personal schedules I do not agree with. I would agree to provide the information to an approved third party and a subsequent monthly public audit. We do not need to know what our public officials are doing 24/7 for a variety of reasons, but a timely published audit would suffice in my opinion. The balance of the requests I would see as an issue.

You run into the opportunity for abuse, I think that is the issue. Just my opinion.

I think government business should be conducted using government e-mail. But travel and schedules? Not so much. I think the Tampa Bay Times is trying to push the issue. I wonder why? Hmmmmm.
SWGB
So the travel you most likely pay for is none of your business? Would you allow a subordinate in a business to refuse to disclose their schedule to you? That second question is valid as the governor is subordinate to the voters of Florida.

Not the point. As a matter of security I wouldn't necessarily release my schedule in advance either. Account for it, audit it, but there is absolutely no need to disclose it in advance.

E-mails are not read by the general public in real time so nothing would be disclosed. I believe Local is suggesting that for audit purposes all government business should be done using government e-mails.

Completely agree on the email side for sure.

We've had a problem in this state with people who are supposed to be operating in the Sunshine using private e-mail to conduct public business that should be viewable under public records laws. So yeah, let a neutral third party examine the private e-mails and then release ones, if any, that do discuss the state government's business.

I agree completely on the e-mails. Just not so sure about the schedules.

Oops, just found all these private emails, where's Representative Gaetz and his crusade for open records?

Shortly after he's been reelected. Way to go Florida, you got what you deserved with skeletor.

Senator Gaetz or his boy Rep. Matt Gaetz?

Representative Matt Gaetz, Senator Gaetz is a Senator. Representative Gaetz was involved in a sunshine law violation lawsuit in Walton County.

Big deal. The Sunshine Law is a joke and all politicians break laws. Presidents break laws too. Obama broke the law with some of his appointments and Republican presidents have broken laws.

That excuse sucks.
But just to remind our liberal friends, your alternative to Skeletor was R lite.

Big deal, I voted for Crist back when he was a Republican.

It was the better alternative.

Rationalize all you want, but no, it really wasn't.

Yes, it really was.

Ricky Bobby, I get it it doesn't bother you. I suppose the thing that bothers me the most is the straight up lying. Said he didn't then admits he did.

All politicians lie and all politicians break laws. It bothers me, but it's pointless to try and waste time trying to do something about it. I suppose it all depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

Since that's your attitude, I feel very sorry for Meggie. Perhaps she'll be lucky enough to grow up and be as ineffective as you are?

I voted for Alex Sink last time. Is being effective ranting and raving about a politician because you hate him? All I can do is vote and I do that. BTW, I'm Megan and I'm a mom.

Does anyone here really think that Gov. Scott or any other Florida politician will be removed from office or otherwise punished? But then again, Ray Sansom was forced to resign but wasn't convicted of anything. He and his buddies were indicted but a nice judge stopped the trial.

I seem to recall someone mentioning that President Obama also broke the law with some recess appointments that he made and the Supreme Court affirmed it. That doesn't bother you? And before you mention it, I'm aware that Republican presidents also have broken laws. We seem to only want to go after politicians we don't like. Isn't that the program? As I said in another post, all I can do about it is vote and the choices aren't very good.
