The far right has only ever used religion as a cloak or a weapon.

It was the result of having multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — "turn the other cheek" — [and] to have someone come up after to say, "Where did you get those liberal talking points?" And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, "I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ," the response would not be, "I apologize." The response would be, "Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak." And when we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis.

Please note - I am considering once again eliminating political discussion from the SoWal Forum becasue the personal attacks continue even after repeated warnings and a few forced temporary "vacations".

That's just it - it's not meant to be a sandbox. At least not one with bullies and trolls. Be nice or leave is a good slogan that you see in NOLA a lot and it is honest and direct and is a good way to run a forum IMHO.

If you want to attack people and post misinformation, then Facebook or Twitter or other social media is the place - not here.

We all need a vacation from politics! Just my opinion. My good hunting and fishing buddy was just diagnosed with stage 3 prostrate cancer. No symptoms. He and I have argued ad nauseum regarding politics. Politics are important but life is more important!

Sniping at one another is one thing. But several members have crossed the line into denigrating businesses, insulting families, threatening visits at workplaces, criticizing sexual preferences, and more.

It's unacceptable and not what this forum is about. The lounge should be a place for fun and community. It should feel like a beach vacation. Sadly it doesn't.

Like South Walton, It should be a refuge. Not more of the same.

I have seen a lot written recently about freedom of speech. I have considered, especially that which I consider extreme. The former Presidents comment reference, " if you come for me I will come for you" and the dead individual from Provos, threat to the Current President and others, and ramifications of this type of speech. Both making a pretty overt threat really bothers me and I would venture that the guy in Provo would claim his speech is legitimate First Amendment Speech in the same way as those who felt the need to encourage a riotous action on January 6 and to encourage, imo, supporters to go after folks who are currently prosecuting the former President. I leave this letter knowing it doesn't answer my questions about those who founded These United States, but does provide a glimpse with regard to what I perceive happen January 6 and is currently happening in our Judiciary. Again, my opinion, like belly buttons and a**holes we all have them.

Yeah that pesky 2nd amendment keeping us all safe from governmental overreach. Maybe one day the left will get it way and we can all work for free or go to the slaughterhouse.
