I can't believe it's been 20 years ago that the Challenger space shuttle exploded. At the time, I was working in a retail shop and business was really slow so I was watching tv. I saw it happening and of course couldn't believe my eyes. I called my boss over and we watched together for a long time. If any customers came in we would all watch together. Where were you on this day?

Walking through the cafeteria at University of Kentucky- looked up and saw it on TV, sat down and didn't go to my next class. Just watched in horror.

Having a meeting in my home and had the TV on s/o sound because it was such a big event. Can still remember the horror of seeing that explosion and hoping it was explainable.

I had just married Merman the August before. That January he took me to England to meet the rest of his family (only his mother had been able to fly over for our wedding). We were sitting in his brother's living room in a London suburb watching the tragedy unfold. I hated being so far away from my family that day. I took it especially hard because I grew up in Londonderry, NH, only half an hour away from Christa McAuliffe's town of Concord. I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing.

At work in Cleburne, Tx. A customer came in and told us--we had no TV. We thought at first that he was just making it up--but he conviced us real fast that he was telling the truth. Left work early to go home and watch on TV. So sad..

My boss called and invited me to lunch (we often discussed business over lunch because our offices located in different places). As soon as we sat down he pointed to a tv monitor mounted to the ceiling behind me and said with the strangest look on his face, "Have you seen this?". Just as I turned around to look the Challenger exploded and for a moment I was confused. After a few moments I unfortunately realized what had happened. I will never forget it. I actually saw it on TV before I heard about it. The volumn on the monitor was mute. One of the saddest things that has ever happened. Funny thing is, it seems like yesterday.
