So we went through a couple of houses yesterday, and they were nice and all, but overall this year's Parade is pretty disappointing. Only two homes total on all of 30-A this year- one in Watercolor and one in Seaside. Seems like the last couple years there have been 3-4 in Watercolor alone. Only one of the usual Sandestin monuments to excess, and it's not even close to completion right now. Eight houses in Crestview in the $400K range, and isn't the only reason to move to Crestview the whole cheap housing thing?

I guess between normal growth and rebuilding after Ivan the local builders didn't have any particular time or need to build spec this year, even with the BIA pushing the Parade back from June to August. Hopefully, it's more interesting next year.

We go through a lot of houses every year both for ideas while we rennovate our own home (built in 1982, and still the original appliances and fixtures when we got it in 2001) and for the rubbernecking factor. Not only wasn't I seeing anything I'd like to adapt for Casa Mouse, but the gaudy was missing this year as well. It's just not as much fun without the two story murals of the early days of Niceville, infinity edge pool & spas, indoor basketball courts, and water features that take up a full wall of the living room that we've seen in years past.

Instead, it seemed like a lot of $500K's worth of bland.

All that sounds a bit disapointing. Our house is the one in Seaside, and we were going to be down late in the week hoping we could see other homes along 30-A in the show. Doesn't sound like that will be worth doing. :dunno:

Our builder asked us if he coiuld put it in the tour and we agreed because they really have become friends along the way. We are house lookers as well and always want to see new creative ideas.

Maybe next year.

Crestview is North of Niceville - off 85 about 15 miles I'm guessing north of Niceville.
