I am thinking the problem was that we have not recovered in a world full of anti-American sentimism. The Bush effect still lingers on.:angry:

Maybe, and this is just a guess here, it's due to the fact that we've hosted our fair share of events, but no South American country has ever had the chance to host one?

I was no fan of Bush, but it is time to move on, the man is not to blame for everything. Might it be that the committee thought it was time to go to South America? Does it have to be a negative or someone's fault?

That would be the logical thought process but being logical is obviously something many do not grasp.

Most likely it had nothing to do with Bush, or even Obama and little about what Chicago or the US did wrong but what Rio did right. They were the underdog and right now that is a popular place to be.

I so agree with the above. ..25% chance of getting it and it would appear that Chicago gave it their best shot. They can't all win.

Michelle Obama gave a great speech, but the sad story about her dad with MS was pretty much irrelevant with regard to choosing an Olympic venue.

Barack Obama shouldn't have been there in my opinion. We have bigger issues for him to deal with. Oh, yes, he met for the second time :roll: with his commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, aboard Air Force One, following up on a Wednesday meeting with his national security team on how to proceed on the war, the White House said. Wow.
