Does anyone know if sod is going to be placed over the fill dirt that was deposited up and down 30-a? It's all I see when I drive to work now as it's BRIGHT yellow/orange and looks horrible. Isn't it supposed to be a SCENIC highway?

I actually think sod is a bad idea. Let the land look like the local land;it will in time. Remember that all that pretty green grass requires lots of fertilizer and watering to survive here, and most of that runs off into our dune lakes and gulf (biggest offender, the lush green lawn around Draper Lake). This causes blooms of algae and microbes that deoxygenate the water, leading to a soupy, nasty, stinky mess that leads to fish kills and cloudy gulf water.

maybe not grass, but sounds as if there needs to be something (native ground covers?) to hold that fill and prevent the erosion of it.

That newly placed rock crush prevents the edges of the asphalt from crumbling off as people run off the road, so it's a good thing. Yes, it looks a little fresh, but with time, the existing grasses will encroach and cover.

And what about those beautiful street signs naming the lakes. Who the hell ever thought those would be attractive. I just dont get it.
My wife and I went on a drive to Seaside the other day and because of all the furor about the lake signs we took special notice of them.
In case you haven't heard, the county is in the midst of a budget crisis just like the rest of the country. The signs do what they are designed to do...identify the dune lake. I think they help visitors understand what the name of the particular lake is and that is the object. Could they be prettier? Sure, but the serve the purpose that is intended. They are probably the same as the street signs because there is already a contract to produce them in place. At any rate, it is not that big a deal, IMO.
