I don't want to burst anybody's bubble, but bears aren't really appropriate for this area. I've lived here for about three decades now, and these sightings that have occurred in the last several months, are the first sightings of bears I have ever heard of. These bears appear to be out-of-towners that have learned that people, and their trash, mean food.

In the 30+years I have been in this area there have always been sightings but with all the development they are just more frequent. They used to stay in the woods where they belong but since humans came and built 100 plus restaurants in their back yard they have decided to enjoy them. At least the hogs arent roaming Grayton anymore.

There used to be a ton of bears here and they were nearly hunted to extinction. Same with native peoples.

There use to be a view of the Gulf as you drove down 30A. There use to be dunes big enough to get some "privacy". There use to be a vast, pristine and fully accessible Beach. There use to be a quaint Gulf front community. "Times, they are a changin'...", as they say.

Yeah, there use to be a view, but before that there were so many bears, you couldn't see the Gulf. The bears were ten feet tall, wall to wall. Then the Indians came and ate all the bears, and then there were too many Indians, and again, you couldn't see the Gulf. Something happened to the Indians, dunno what. But you could see the Gulf for a couple of years. And then, white folks everywhere, then Suv's, now you can't see the Gulf again. But you can google it, and download photos of it. It all runs in cycles. Someday, no more white folks, but suv's and iPhones should survive.
