Dog-on-it. That's not what I wanted. I sure hope I don't scare you from those woods. I talk to many people who are in the woods everyday, jogging or walking, and never see anything.

I see most of my snakes in the swamp and not the woods, but they are there. But I see just as many, including today, in or along the road. The kids and I stopped at the front of my street and saw a garter snake earlier.

Of course, we also saw numerous other types today and yesterday, but in the swampy areas. The kids actually each saw a couple before I saw my first. In fact, as my daughter was trying to point one out to me I was wondering if she was 'special' because I thought she was looking at a reed until I finally saw it. Anyway, I guess my idea that I was a super snake spotter was disproven.

I hope you'll take your walk and enjoy the absolute beautiful surroundings, though. Remember, I spend a lot of time doing this. I watch for snakes while I'm driving and for wildlife virtually all the time, so I will tend to see more.

LOL!! We ended up walking around Jollee Island. Wouldn't you know it every branch, leave, noise was a snake! My mind was very imaginative after that video! My next step to getting out in nature is going to a State park & wandering. (I may need a 12 step program for this!) :D

I broght my kids to see several nice size moccasin this morning and we spent part of the afternoon at Pier Park getting pop corn etc.

On teh way back I stopped off of hwy 98 at a spot I saw with sand leading into the woods. I told them we'd try to spot a snake real quick. We walked in and went a few hundred feet before turning their little legs around. Then I saw it... A little pygmy rattler under a raised stick. The kids, especially my son, had been intent on seeing his first pygmy rattler ever. We were all happy about it.

Last night we saw several coyote. I was telling them a story of hearing a pack of coyote calling at night near the Deer Lake area and sure enough, as I was saying this and passing through the area, right on cue, we saw a coyote.

We turned around and saw it several other times and actually saw more than one. It was a great experience for the kids and me, because I love watching their reaction to things like that.

Of course, when I wanted to go to the same area and try to spot shooting stars tonight, away from any light, they declined. I sure wish we'd have clearer skies right now as some meteors are suppose to be visible now.
