I say let it slide this time and give them the damn bonuses--exposure of the "crime"is the main thing for right now, agree that clarity and financial controls need to be adopted going forward in this situation--what come around will go around, especially when they change the name of AIG and make it a smaller entity.

My perfect beach
How would those contracts have been enforced if AIG had been allowed to go bankrupt?

Anyone have an intelligent article/link to reasoned analysis of what might have happened had they not been bailed out? I've heard the world economy to hell-in-a-handbasket scenario ad infinitum. True? or just the usual cronyism? And really, how much worse could things have gotten?

Enlighten me, please.

Good point, MissCritter, those traders would have gotten in line in the event of a BK.

This may be faster than I thought. I had the over/under by the end of the year, he may be unemployed well before then....

The Note: GOP Rep. Calls for Geithner's Ouster

GOP Rep. Calls for Geithner's Ouster

A Republican member of Congress today called on Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to "resign or be fired," as scrutiny grows over Geithner's handling of the bonuses due to AIG executives.

"The Treasury Department is in disarray," Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fla., said in a statement. "Timothy Geithner should either resign or be fired for the good of the country, and President Obama should nominate a new Treasury Secretary with the experience and leadership skills America deserves.? He added: "Quite simply, the Timothy Geithner experience has been a disaster."

there is actually a need for many of these criminals, i mean specialists to unwind aig's positions. in addition, many of those unwinding these positions will have no job when the tasks are completed.

You don't really think that members of Congress can read one 11,000 page bill in two hours, do you? Why they would vote in favor of something which they cannot pretend to grasp is poliTRICKS.

They're proposing a 90% tax on their bonuses!

While I don't think they deserve the money, I can't believe this is the only solution.

Hell, based on the nominees we ought to be able to get most of it back if we just properly audit all the folks who are receiving the bonuses. I'd bet the majority of them got creative w/ taxes.
