oh for the love of pete thank you. I have to rent this movie again tomorrow! Dont bother watching on TV, they cut out all the good stuff. I need some more dry humor lines.Why oh why do I let my darn friends borrow my favorite movies.
One of the finest contemporary movies ever made, IMHO. The cinematography, the story arcs of all of the characters and the changes we experienced with them, the amazing acting on all levels... Chris Cooper, Thora Birch, Allison Janney, Wes Bentley - I loved the supporting performances as much as the leads. I could go on and on...
I remember being most impressed by the fact that it was Sam Mendes first time directing a major motion picture, talk about hitting it out of the park on your first swing!

Another really good movie with Thora Birch is "Ghost World". It's also got Steve Buscemi and Scarlett Johansen in it.
Oooh, I like that movie too. Steve Buscemi is always great... For some reason, I am always surprised by Scarlett Johansson; she almost always delivers more than I believe her capable of. I don't know what prejudice I carry that makes me expect less from her, but it is interesting for me to try to puzzle it out. The first time I remember seeing her was in The Horse Whisperer, and I thought she was brilliant.

Agree with y'all. I've seen it many times.
But when it came out, daughter was 14. It creeped me out that a grown man would have fantasies about a friend of his daughter. So I would never watch it when hubby was around. He was at that midlife crisis age.
