The sing off sounds like the last day in Hollywood. It's probably a good twist for them, they get a bit more control to keep the talented singers longer.
Sometimes in the past it seemed more like a popularity contest where teenypoppers voted for the cute guy. (Or when people thought the favorite was "safe" and didn't vote.)

I don't want to see the judges pick who goes home. Their idea of who should win often don't mesh with who the American public likes best, and I seem them propping up mediocre judge's pets.

I agree. And would Jason Castro have lasted as long if he hadn't made thousands of teenaged girls swoon and vote for him?
