Why?

I don't get why people like you, Triple B -- who otherwise seems like a funny and nice-to-know guy -- are so darned hostile about the possibility that humans have contributed mightily to a warming cycle that could be disastrous for our children and children's children?

Why so defensive?

why denigrate the efforts to make it better? What's the point? :dunno:
Oh, you Cad, with all your out of proportioned sensibilities! Have you no quarter?

The point (seen best @ sunset, north, on their heads) is that having to be part of the problem means that you must be part of the solution, if you are to be a self-fulfilled adult. Who wants that jazz, it's a bummer, Man.

Was it not that young band HotWork, WarmPlay, ColdJob, whomever, that sayeth:

"Come out upon my seas
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I part of the cure
Or part of the disease?"

Idiots, dolts, reef smokers, who do they think they are?

Now you come along to cast dispersions at the dispersed. Grow up, there is more to life than, er, Life. :nono1:

What does it matter if we're right or wrong about the warming of the earth being caused by humans or the sun?
"...I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
Oh, maybe because it directly points to the problem, the cause, those who should feel a real sense of responsibility? That once they have been denied their "who gives a ****" approach to life now have to ball up and take action? Or be declared rightfully self absorbed assholes?

You quote John Lennon and in the same breath question?

Good for you. :clap_1:

Okay, after reading 30A Skunkape's letter by professor Tim Ball I took A Zalace's advice and did some research on the guy. I have to say that he doesn't sound that credible to me any more. Yes, the company he works for is funded by the oil industry. Maybe he just didn't get any real recognition when he was a professor, a job which he quit by the way to do free lance environmental consulting???????? Why would you spend your life building a carrier as a professor, only to quite in order to do "free lance" work. I don't know, maybe the money oil companies pay for free lance is pretty good. I am beginning to feel like I am in the twilight zone here. 30A Skunkape and TripleB who do you work for? The oil industry perhaps?:bang:

Here is a blog where someone else did the research for quick reference:

Gosh, that post takes ignoramity to a new level.

Congrats.  :sosad:

You didn't miss much Kimmi. So you won't have to watch the entire movie, I'll give you the details. Its our fault. The End.
That was very nice of you. Kimmi need not worry her pretty l'il brain (emphaisis on l'il) about such totally worthless concepts as what style of planet your and her children might have to live (or not).

It is the kind, gentle and noble nature of your post that separates you from Those Fools Who Care.

Since we have moved to youtube I figured I would throw one in the mix as well. It is a little long, but worth watching regardless of what camp you are from. Doesn't sound to me like Mr. Gore is too concerned about Democrat, Republican, or running for president anymore. I could be wrong though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNUbyzzDAiQ&NR
Mr. Gore, IMVHO, has hit a stride in his life where he has, for the most part, given up aspirations of high public office. Anyone who knows the Gores (being a Tennessee Sheep and a politico of Middle Tenn) also knows they have had vast ambition since the days of Albert Sr Sr Sr. Truly, I think he is fukkin' done with it. No one puts on the pounds like he has and expects to be Prez of the PTA much less USA. :rotfl:

Not to say he hasn't been a nasty-nasty, he grew up in a family that made its gamillions of $$$$ from Occidental Ptroleum, Armand Hammer and the sale of the precious Elk Hills and the multi zillion $$$ gas and oil reserves in this "no longer conservation" land.

But the street word in Carthage is that he has had it and if there is any due course, it is time that he repay for his sins, his father's.

We could both be wrong, though, I doubt it. My next pass thru Carthage, I will stop by and see, walk as I have in the past, right up to the Gore's front door. Push thatg comforting little yeller button and hear those welcoming words.

"There is a damn sheep ringing the bell, get the prod!"

I am just trying to keep up Sheep. Remember TripleB said to keep the argument balanced, so I couldn't let them say the only ignoramus things. So were you up late drinking or what? You went on a little bit of a rampage last night. You are funny, and kind of cute in a nasty way.

You got me Revelnit! I'm the CFO of a major oil company. We were hoping our global warming schemes wouldn't be found out until at least another 5-10 years. I might as well tell you that our long term goal is to make Fla. so hot people would leave. This would free up the gulf for our massive off-shore drilling and make our profits today look like chump change. I guess the jig is up. I better go back to clubbing baby seals.

Triple,
Thank you for that, I got a good laugh from your reply. I do have to say that going clubbing with baby seals is much more pleasurable than just clubbing them.:clap_1: :funn: :clap_1: :funn: :clap_1: :funn: :clap_1:

I'm not saying that I completely agree with the the majority of scientists who believe that we humans (and we Americans, because we are collectively the worst offenders) have caused this. I'm just saying I'm gonna listen. Why? Because scientists predicted what could happen if a major hurricane struck New Orleans, and Katrina didn't even hit it head on, and gosh darned if those scientists weren't right.

I must say I place a lot more trust in academics and scientists than politicians or the "herd" (and I am part of the herd, whether I like it or not). And I have a lot more faith in a politician who thinks like a scientist, or at least tries to, because he or she evidently is at least trying to be accurate and is listening to those who have studied and devoted their entire careers to things like this.

I just read the papers and news magazines. I don't really know anything beyond my little world, but I try to keep up. And if the people who are studying these things say we need as a country to change the way we do things, why shouldn't we listen? Why?

We all want the same thing for our planet. And if the situation is truly dire, why denigrate the efforts to make it better? What's the point? :dunno:
TFT...I'm not trying to be hostile. But your post proves what I've been saying all along. If you tend to be skeptical about "man-made" global warming, then you are cast as anti-enviroment, greedy and cold-hearted. I have stated several times that I'm for conservation and anything we can do that promotes clean air, a clean enviroment etc. I also believe that those on here who are on the "man-made" bandwagon want the same things and are sincere about their beliefs.

It is the politics of the debate that (both sides) that I try to target. If the solution was that everyone should try to do what they can lessen what some feel causes global warming (whether it true or not), I'd be all for it. Unfortunantly, when you listen to the debate, it tends to lean to promoting draconian measures for a problem that has yet been proven to exist. We call it global warming but most of the "solutions" seem fall on the US people and economy (see Kyoto). Yes, I know that we (US) consume a much of the resources we talk about but crippling our economy is not a solution. Hillary Clinton said last week she would like to take the profits of Exxon and put it in a "special fund" to address the problem. Thoughts like that scare me. If one thinks that sticking it to "big oil" only affects "big oil" you are mistaken.

Make no mistake about it. Anti-capitalism is a major force pushing the "man-made" debate. Just look at the articles posted which dwell not on substantial measures that can be taken for this "problem" but instead on profits made by the oil industry. Anti-capitalism=Socialism=governmental restrictions on freedoms we have here in the good ole US of A.

To answer a few of your questions TFT: 1.) I am not hostile to the possiblity of humans causing GW. I have just asked "where's the proof?" All I seem to get is data that gw is occuring then the l-e-a-p that its man-made. 2.) We should listen to those who say we need to "change things"...its just getting them to say what and how we do this I want to know (all for recycling...conservation etc. but you know it goes deeper than that) 3.) Being skeptical is not denigrating...disagreeing is not denigrating. Asking questions, as you have asked me, is not denigrating. I admit I have poked fun at some of the comments but thats just me. Sorry if I offended anyone.
