Watching a show on Animal Planet right now called The Most Extreme as in killers. Number 10 was the shark. Sharks they stated have 56 teeth in their mouths that we see but have 7 total rows of teeth for a total of 392 teeth. Wow!And the box jellyfish is deadly. Have to receive anti-venom for this type of jellyfish sting. In Australia, they said, they have nets in the water to try to catch the jellyfish and keep them away from the swimmers. Makes my skin crawl!

I've picked up many a one on Texas beaches. Have only ever found one in Florida. That should make you feel safer, right?

:funn: Yeah, I found sharks teeth on the Atlantic side but have never seen any in the panhandle. We saw several jellyfish off of the Dan Russell pier one time! Couldn't believe how many there were. I cannot figure out what the thing was I saw on the beach last year. Didn't touch it. If I can ever find a picture of it I will put it on here.

Back when i could SEE, I used to find them by the hundreds. Still have them around here somewhere. We used to have contests with the kids, for the biggest one, smallest one, most found, etc.. They loved it. They still have theirs too and it's been about 20 years. I remember one time in particular, my ex-sister in law and I were walking down the beach, and saw the same tooth at the same time, we raced and since she was a little petite thing, I just knocked her out of the way. I had to win the Snickers Bar!

The ones I actually picked up off of the beach in Long Beach, NC where black! And the ones I bought in Alvin's Island were black. You ever find any small sand dollars?

Yes, most of the ones I found were black or grey. They are, I'm told, millions of years old. Haven't found any intact sand dollars in many many years. But, mr. dd and his daughters have found some very large ones on the sand bars. A friend once brought me some sand dollars from New England and they were grey.

I at one time had about 6 small white sand dollars from when we went to Ft. Walton Beach many years ago, all of them were broken by my son. I have one small one now I caught in the water last year. Surprised it has stayed intact.

yes, they are fragile things, huh? I guard mine with my life, but every once in a while, one will just break on it's own. dang it!
