Thanks guys. We've been to Dr. this morning. Doc said don't go to school but I didn't ask when was OK. Drops are in and antibiotics started for the ear infection ---- so it is likely bacterial since she has both ear and eye problems. In googling, it sounds like as long as the school doesn't have a problem she can go back tomorrow. She's responsible enough to keep hands clean and away from people for a while. She's carrying around the hand sanitizer.

Mermy, that is a great story! Are you really that bad of a driver??

.

I can't see beans at night. And especially not with the world's best 'backseat driver' aka Merman directing traffic. ;-) Oh, I forgot to add that we'd brought our pet menagerie with us on vacation, so we had plenty of yowling and howling all through the long night on the road.

There is an area of intense confusion! 'Pink eye' refers to viral conjunctivitis;usually the child has a minimally itchy but very watery red eye. A thick discharge is not a part of classic pink eye. Often you can feel a swelling of the lymph node that lies on the side of the face between the eye and ear (just in front of the ear, actually). I don't think anyone knows for sure how long the kid is contagious but a good rule of thumb is about a week after onset, but once the redness and tearing go away, they are ok to go to school as long as they wash their hands (yeah, right). There is no need for any medication.

Lots of times people will call bacterial conjunctivitis 'pink eye', but it is not the same thing. This is the condition where you see the goopy stuff on the eye lashes of the red eye. I always give these kids an antibacterial ointment. There is no need to keep them out of school!

Good luck:wave:

Thanks! She had the "goopy" stuff but little if any tearing (except when she thought she wasn't going to get to go to Winterguard practice, that brought a few tears . A big Championship coming up Saturday)

She missed school today but is at practice now and has a band concert tonight. She's clutching her tiny bottle of hand sanitizer! :D She'll be fine.
