Lived in Singapore in 2008. Been to Bangkok quite a few times too.
Bangkok? Ok for a day or two. If you like shopping hit MBK and Chatuchak Weekend Marke. MBK is inside, so you will not be turned into a puddle..Weekend Market, not so much : ) Chatuchak is quite an exp. Can buy anything there..anything from lemurs to pudding pops. In all shops, expect to haggle.
Singapore? Used to have a saying when I was there.. Singapore is the biggest shopping mall in the world with a seat on the UN. Dont expect to buy clothes, unless you have them made...or if you are a very very petite size 0. I am 5'9 and always felt like I was shopping in the toddlers section

Hunting for souviners, hit china town, best prices and some unique things.
The MRT system in Sing is top notch. Look for a hotel beside one of the stations. Orchard road, considered the '5 avenue' of Asia is a good spot.
Foodcourts. Not what they are here. To truly exp Sing, you have to eat here. They are everywhere. One of the things I loved about Sing..the good food was cheap, the bad for you fried crap was rather pricey. If you dont wish to go too local there are starbucks and mcdonalds everywhere. Beware Pizza Hut is not like it is here. They like thousandisland dressing and squid on a few of the pizzas, also being that much of the country is Muslim, pork products are frowned upon and replaced with chicken intimation substance.
Few more things about Singapore..very clean, nearly crime free, and the official language is English (So they say, but it is often 'Singlish' a combo of Mandarin, Hokken, Malay and English. Still not that hard to understand though. La). Big bonus to finding your way around over Thailand.
Well need to cut this short..or else it will be a book. Let me know what else you would like to know
