Are we about to strike Al Qaeda there? As the terrorist cells grow, will we strike pre-emptively in every country? Is there irony in the Christmas Day attempt as well as the Newark Terminal C incident this weekend?

I do remember after Sept. 11, 2001, having a conversation specifically regarding Saudi Arabia and (with the knowledge I had at the time) felt that was certainly one country to keep intelligence on, simply because their borders are closed and I believe they have harbored terrorists in the past. Yemen strategically borders Saudi on the Gulf side and as this unfolds, I am surprised, yet not at all surprised. Al Qaeda tends to breed in vulnerable countries........cowards.

I have to say that Sec. of State Clinton has and is handling this well.

Right here!
We've been involved in Yemen since the early 90s and have launched or assisted in attacks there a number of times. The last was Dec. 18th and was ordered by Obama, you might have caught a few blurbs about it in the news.

As far as pre-emptive strikes go, I figure, if they attacked us first, they're open season regardless of where they are. I don't see that as pre-emptive.

I'd much rather see CIA agents in the streets shooting bad guys in the head than the military dropping bombs on cities though - much less fallout. For whatever reason though, our intelligent services seem incapable of waging a cold war style war on these groups, which is unfortunate.

Admittedly, I didn't pay attention to the news much during December (for specific reasons), but I did read up a little on this tonight. The vulnerability of the countries al qaeda moves into seems to be a pattern. And, what will Saudi do?

We do have special forces all over the place over there and we aren't the only embassy closed. A lot happening, but nothing much going on?

Erie.
