I can definitely see how the kindle is a great invention when space is limited (military, remote schools, long trips), but I choose by books by cover, mood, shared from friends, and what looks interesting when I open it randomly and read a page at the library book sale.

Not to mention the Kindle doesn't work so well in the bathtub.

Yeah, the bathtub thing could be a deal for some. I never take baths any more though since I'm so old and fat. I do see what you're saying too though about the actual book experience..that may take some getting used to, but I think for some (like me), I might be encouraged to read more since I don't have to go the bookstore, etc.

They definitely have their place - some inventor/philanthropist was on Colbert and said that their value to education in remote/developing areas is insane - it means a school system of 100 kids with $100 solar powered laptops can have access to a 10,000+ volume library.

I imagine the military folks love them too.

Scooty, with the Kindle, apparently you can preview a book without buying it, not to mention online reviews right at your fingertips.

How does one read a book in the bath tub?:dunno:

 Well, I gotta tell you, it's easier than reading a book in the shower... Bah-dum-bum. ;-)

Actually, I read books in the tub often... I'm big on bubble baths, that's my "me time". Since I love to read more than just about anything, it kinda just goes hand in hand. :D Makes me a Happy Kit.

Naw..no smut....yet. I just finished Nora Ephron's "I Feel Bad About My Neck". Kinda funny, but she ended talking about death and Lord knows I'm confronted with that enough. There was one entertaining chapter titled "I Hate my Purse" which was pretty danged funny. It was cheap though and only 100 pages. I'm now on to Jill Conner Browne's "First Big Ass Novel". She always makes me laugh. And she doesn't talk about death much.
