Houses built in South Walton County have been inspected by Walton County Building Department in great detail, down to the number of nails in each sheet of plywood sheathing to the number of nails in each hurricane strap. Each window and door has to meet Dade County standards, and there are multiple hold-downs systems that strap them from the footer to the roof systems. All plans have to be certified by a licensed architect to withstand hurricane strength winds. I kind of wonder how our building department can inspect every aspect of this, when it's done in a factory far, far away. I have seen with my own eyes some downright dangerous violations of basic building codes (and common sense) in these Katrina Cottages that are being trucked in. Who knows what is inside these big ones?
