Right here!
Where's the "They've been done for a while but I just sent off my check today so the government didn't rip me off on interest." option?

Mailed my check for 2008 today, the "for" line was filled in with "boondoggle". I couldn't resist.

It's $5.99 a bottle pinot grigio! Good for washing down $1.99 lb chicken fajitas!

Basically I can biatch, or I can be happy that because the year sucked so much I am getting a tax refund ............ so other checks don't bounce. Deep down I know it's not the best year-end scenario, but it's all about the little bits of happy you get when you squint REALLY hard.

Since you're swept up in the mood to pay, I think it's time for another Alaqua supermarket sweep and delivery - puppy tax time! :D

Now, this I can get into...GREAT use of any money!!!! Got the checkbook and a pen! Let's go shopping!

So is it better to get a refund or pay in? My thought has always been that either way you "owe" the same amount of tax so I want to make the interest off "my money" instead of them using "my money.". That leads me to always paying in at the end. I am not knocking extra deductions just when we choose to pay, up front versus April 15th (or later). What do others think?

If you're disciplined <and the majority of folks who cry WHEEEE! when they get a refund aren't>, it's better to pay the IRS each year--as long as you don't owe so much as to incur a penalty. And once we get to the point of full-blown inflation, that "refund" you get will be worth much less when Sam gets around to giving you your own money back.

I like to owe as much as possible. This year I owed enough to incur an underpayment penalty of $5.00. I'm not too concerned. It was worth 5.00 not to worry about quarterly payments and all that other crap. I could just pay the 5.00 penalty now but I'll just let the IRS calculate it and bill me. Make them work for it.

...and don't forget to adjust your withholdings so it doesn't happen again next year--then again, I think our investments will make that unnecessary for this coming year.

My sentiments exactly!!!!

Can hardly wait for the inflation period coming out of my joy of paying taxes phase! :D
I truly am thankful to pay taxes because it means I am an American, free and made some jack! Wahoo!!!

Yep - and, it's your right to make these adjustments each year! Great point Shelly! Take your laptop on the slow boat and stay in touch! :D
