The Mr. and I enjoy bananas foster. So when I got ready to make it last night, I sent him to the store to get some rum ( any as long as it was not clear) for the dessert. He doesn't drink and picked a bottle of 151 proof. I did not read the label when he brought it home and began cooking with it. What a stupid mistake! As I poured it in the pan, flames came shooting out:eek: ...not exaggerating. I singed the hair on my arms and set off the smoke alarm. Finally found the lid to the pan and smothered it....amazingly enough the bananas weren't harmed. I picked up the bottle and it had a warning "not to be used on flaming dishes". I had a good laugh after I got over my scare. Moral of this story...pay attention when cooking with alcohol!

:lolabove: I've done this. Luckily I managed to escape getting anything burned off. Here are two tips:

1. Remove the pan from the burner before you add the alcohol, and then let it ignite as you put it back on the burner. It'll be a less dramatic flame, but you'll get to keep your eyebrows.
2. 151 is one of only two (I can't remember the other) alcohols that will ignite cold. A flame will catch on that stuff in a heartbeat.

anyway.... I hope your dessert was good!

I got "fried" from my first experience with 151. I had just turned 18, and Mr. BR served me 151 on our first date. I didn't know what it was and got

He was almost 22 and knew what it would do.
