Right here!
Argh, so here I am again going through my hurricane kit (part of my to-do list for the New Year) and I find again that half the batteries I bought last spring have since gone dead or don't have much juice. I seem to buy these things every year just in case, only to find myself frustrated a year later at the loss of money spent when I have to toss most of them out.

Anyone run into this and have any suggestions? Also, does anyone know of a way to recycle old batteries through Walton County?

Seems I have batteries that last forever. Duracels here. I keep them in a dark place, room temperature, usually the junk drawer in the kitchen.

The key to batteries in hurricane/emergency kits is to not store the batteries in the device. That will slowly drain the batteries, and corrode the device and batteries over time. Always store the batteries with the device, but not in the device.

I store batteries in the refrigerator. They last a long, long time in there.

Yes, have used the freezer. Not sure if it works to prolong life or not, though. But, now just the junk drawer.

I wonder if the humidity down here drains them faster when they just sit?

Possibly, but I don't know. It gets pretty humid here, too. And, I have a feeling I keep the A/C at a higher temp than you........maybe you just got a bad lot. I'll bring some from inland next trip down.

I have to commend you on getting the hurricane kit ready now, though. J/K~~~~~

Use rechargeable batteries. The first time a weather forcaster mentions the word "HURRICANE"
put them in the charger. They will be hot when the lights go out.;-)
