Me too- and my point exactly. Feisty is a trait that makes us take someone less seriously as a real threat.

Three types of people.

1. Runs to the hall and calls 911
2. Runs to hall and out the building doing nothing but wetting pants.
3. Just reacts and does not truly think of the consequences. Known to run into burning buildings.

I just think its cool that #3 still exist. Feisty old lady or not... Had another #3 been sitting in one of those chairs they would have pounced the moment she hit him. Luckily, he is either a bad shot or had no intentions of killing.

I think it's pretty clear he chose not to kill her. From what I read today, he was a very good marksman, so perhaps he chose not to kill any of them. It is a tragic story all the way around IMO. It was pretty amazing that none of those guys jumped him while she had him distracted...

Ms. Littleton saw her fellow man in danger and did what she could to help them without regard for her own safety. By definition she is a hero. It may not have have been the "smart" thing to do, but courage and bravery never look "smart" to the self-centered. If I were in peril I would take Ms. Littleton on my side every day instead of the "smart" guy.

I know ex-felons, none of them own guns or have any idea how to get one.

Someone tries to take me hostage, they are getting attacked with whatever I can find - typically a purse or something in it. Hell, I'll put my camera in a sock and beat you with it.

Not saying that is always the smartest move, but it's how some of us are programmed.

Somehow we got on the topic of self defense at dinner one night and of all the dirty and maiming tactics we were taught, both Mama Scooterbug and I ONLY draw the line at gouging out someone's eyes with our fingers.

I think we'd get along real well with Ginger.

Me too! You are right, some are just wired to be more aggressive in that type of scenario, while others are content to play it safe and let anyone else be the hero . I think what she did wasn't the smartest thing to do, but in her mind at least she was doing something .
I would use my thumbs in some eyeballs if it meant me getting away.

On television the other night she said she wished she'd had a brick or the kitchen sink in that purse. She has a good sense of humor.

Ginger is quite lucky the guy didn't shoot her, but I still love that she whacked him with her purse.

One of the interesting facts I found when researching TSA/airline safety recently - an expert in one article said 2 of the things that ACTUALLY improved safety post 9-11 (not taking away nail clippers and my yogurt etc.) was reinforcing the cockpit door and passengers ready and willing to fight back.

"Act first, think later" doesn't always end well, but at the end of the day I still prefer someone acting to someone doing nothing.

I've tried to imagine what I would have done in this situation and while we can never know for sure what we would have done I'm pretty sure that I would not have gone back in there with a purse as my only weapon
