I prefer singing into my beer bottle. That always seems to work for me. And making up my own words.

You have a BANJO?
 Only had it for a couple of months so I have so much to learn, but for the next few nights, I have some lowkey bluegrass picking sessions in Destin with friends to which I am looking forward.

I am such a beginner, but it is funn seeing the chord dynamics and relating them to the guitar. I think I am gaining a sense of a higher level of how notes work with each other. I am sure that learning the piano would even step it up a notch for me, being that it has a linear layout, but to date, I just cannot get past simple tunes on the piano. Perhaps one day, I will cut back on SoWal and pick up my keyboard on a daily basis.

SJ... I don't really play the banjo, but can show you the beginning to Foggy Mtn Breakdown (the classic banjo tune that's the soundtrack to every country chase scene you've ever seen ;-) ). It's surprisingly easy to learn-- 5 minutes, guaranteed, you'll be playing it. You will then amaze and impress your friends who will think you can play at a much higher level. End of May when I get down there again, ok?

Sounds like a plan to me. I have been working on some classic bluegrass tunes by Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Ricky Sckaggs, Del McCoury, and am throwing in some other stuff too, like Bob Dillion and John Prine. They are fun, but I am long way away from being decent. :funn:I mostly like the name dropping. :rotfl:

Yes it is, Ms Kitty. Did I ever tell you the story of how one day in Central Park (NYC) we watched this old guy (in a red and white striped vest and old timey straw hat) pull out a banjo. He started playing Toot Toot Tootsie. Well, it was like a weird movie...because within 30 seconds, all these toddlers who were picnicking with parents started running towards him, parents chasing them. Im not kidding, they came from all directions, one or two from over the hill...and within two minutes he had about 6-8 toddlers in front of him, jumping up and down and squealing. It was hilarious. Talk about a happy instrument!

And as far as the metal finger picks go, yes, you absolutely need them to play authentic 5-string bluegrass/Scruggs-style banjo. No need for them if you play 4-string/clawhammer style, but hardly anyone does that anymore.
