The mounds are typical if the moon is right, the tides are just right, and if a good storm has stirred up the water that allows the waves to bring them in. I have many other photos of shells and mounds, though I only posted a few.
The best shelling is on the west end of the island, in the residential area. The way the island is shaped, the great shells come ashore on West Gulf Drive. My favorite area, with huge mounds at times, has no condos or cottages, so I get good pickings! Too, using a net when shells are really rolling in will catch some goodies!
BB, I am going to be throwing away some shells, shall I go ahead and send them to you along with some really good shells? I assume that some of the imperfections on many shells can be hidden within the fireplace. I would rather you pick through my discards and find some you like, than for me to toss some and they would have made the grade for you!
I have TOO many shells already, within 4 trips!
Would love, love, love to return to SoWal! I was staying with friends in Sanibel, so I saved tons of money without having to pay for lodging or a rental car. I have been permanently laid off from work, therefore, I was able to enjoy a few weeks away (looking for a position in between though

). I still think SoWal has the
most beautiful beaches though. No comparison to Sanibel. It's the island feel and the shelling I love about Sanibel.
