How about a SoWal Shelling Weekend at Sanibel? I think it is 8 hrs and 43 min from Pt. Washington to Sanibel. I know you all are thinking about Las Vegas, but would anyone be interested in a Girls' weekend shelling? It could actually be a Mother/daughter trip too. Kylie is taking the Babysitting certification course starting next week, if we wanted to have a couple hours without them while we were there! Just a thought! Those pictures of the beautiful shells make me drool!

And HOW did you mark your territory? Enquiring minds want to know.
I want full details tomorrow during brunch. See y'all in the morning!

PS. Last week on my birthday weekend, when I paddled my kayak across the bay at Tyndall Air Force Base, as soon as I pulled up on shore, I found a 12" white lightning welk. It was my gift from Mother Nature!:clap_1:

Thanks mom! :D

PPS. I love all of those shell pictures, they are absolutely beautiful.

Gotta get to bed now. Lots of "Sowalcializing" to do tomorrow!

BB - we nominate you sowal soiree planner for 2007. and possibly every year... by the way, have you selected a date for the event??? :D

I accept the nomination :clap_1: :clap_1: what date is looking good for everyone this year. We have talked about one in the spring or again in the fall....any suggestions?:dunno:

The mounds are typical if the moon is right, the tides are just right, and if a good storm has stirred up the water that allows the waves to bring them in. I have many other photos of shells and mounds, though I only posted a few.

The best shelling is on the west end of the island, in the residential area. The way the island is shaped, the great shells come ashore on West Gulf Drive. My favorite area, with huge mounds at times, has no condos or cottages, so I get good pickings! Too, using a net when shells are really rolling in will catch some goodies!

BB, I am going to be throwing away some shells, shall I go ahead and send them to you along with some really good shells? I assume that some of the imperfections on many shells can be hidden within the fireplace. I would rather you pick through my discards and find some you like, than for me to toss some and they would have made the grade for you!
I have TOO many shells already, within 4 trips!

Would love, love, love to return to SoWal! I was staying with friends in Sanibel, so I saved tons of money without having to pay for lodging or a rental car. I have been permanently laid off from work, therefore, I was able to enjoy a few weeks away (looking for a position in between though:D). I still think SoWal has the most beautiful beaches though. No comparison to Sanibel. It's the island feel and the shelling I love about Sanibel.

any shells would be fine! you are correct, a lot of them will be pushed into the concrete mixture so you will not see the whole shell. so, i would love your discards :D

BB and I walked on the beach and found some pretty shells today.
Of course it is a very competitive sport. I learned you have to mark your territory.

i told you it was a very competitive sport!
