Ok, y'all were so helpful with remedies when I was a yellow fly smorgasboard, so I thought I'd ask here...

What do you do for bee stings???? I was stung on the arm yesterday afternoon by a yellow jacket... it's been 25+ years since I was stung, and I sure don't remember it hurting/itching/swelling this badly when I was a kid!

I've iced it, used topical benadryl & cortisone, and am taking advil, but it seems to be getting more swollen and painful instead of less.

So bring it - what are your home remedies for bee stings?

Yuck...yellow jackets are the worst. You can expect the swelling to go as long as a day before it starts to go away. Looks to me that the only thing you left off was meat tenderizer, but I don't know if that would be benefit this long after the sting. It would be like peeing on somebody's leg a day after getting zapped by a jelly! LOL!

It sounds like the stinger might still be in there. Otherwise the treatments you mentioned should have done the trick.

Ouch. I feel your pain. I got stung about a month ago on my large toe. The pain just kept getting worse as the night progressed and I went to the ER because my foot was getting numb with pain.

I had received a package that day from New Mexico and we didn't know what bit me since I opened the package in my yard and I got bit near the package. Turned out to be a bees nest in the ground near the woods, it was dusk and I couldn't see it.

They gave me a shot of Benadryl (they wanted to give me steroids, but I declined) and by morning, the pain was alot better. But, man oh man, if you get bit in a sensitive area or it hits a nerve, it can be quite painful. Last time I was bit by a bee it was non eventful, but I was told that the second or third bite can be quite different, even can cause anaphylasis. It's best to take the Benadryl internally vs. externally & Will is right, it can take a whole 24 hours to feel some relief and that was with Benadryl.

I have been stung three times this summer -- it had been 30 years since the last time I was stung. I was shocked how painful it was! It took 2 days before the intense pain subsided. At least 5 -7 days before the itching and swelling was completely gone! Lots of ice, some vinegar, benedryl and advil . . .

Could be, but the thread isn't exactly clear. The title says "bee sting", but then, there's this...
"What do you do for bee stings???? I was stung on the arm yesterday afternoon by a yellow jacket"

Carol G...was it a bee or a yellow jacket? Bees are bees and yellow jackets are wasps...

Moot point this far after the sting, though...
