Best in Show at Westminster- a beautiful English Springer Spaniel, who works as a therapy dog for Alzheimer's patients.

He beat out Bill Cosby's Dandie Dinmont- a very cute little cute dog. And now that he has had so much press, move over French Bulldogs and other uber-trendy breeds. The Dandie Dinmont will be the new overbred king of dogs as fashion accessories.:bang:

What did you think of that white dog with the dreadlocks? Komodornat or something like that. It was in the working dogs classification on Monday night. Pretty cool but I can't imagine having to groom it!

We have freinds with sheep back in Louisville. They have one of these- but don't keep it indreads!

I always thought their hair was just like that...didn't know you had to have it groomed in dreads. And I thought a poodle was high maintenance.
Really. I love those komondors, but I can't imagine how high-maintainence one of those would be even if you weren't showing it. I don't show my standard poodle, but just to keep her maintained, she needs grooming about every 6 weeks - it costs $110. I've tried saving money by having it done less frequently, but she gets matted, and the groomer charges $200 for a matted standard. The groomer shows his standard poodle and says he spends 30 minutes a day grooming his dog plus 4 hours twice a week. The dog only needs 2 more wins to be a champion, and then he says he's going to stop showing him - too much work.

I was cheering for the standard poodle. Its sire is Mikimoto on Fifth who won best of breed and best of group twice at Westminster. The visla showed beautifully, but the spaniel was one of the prettiest I've ever seen.

Even though I'm partial to poodles (have had 4), there are so many of those dogs I would like to have -- too many breeds, not enough time.

Did anybody else notice that when the judge did his last walk-by, he didn't even stop and look at the Springer? I thought that meant he wasn't even considering it. Wrong!

The English Springer Spaniels are the greatest. My husband's mother had two liver and white springer spaniels. The only one I got to know was very attached to me. His name was Moe and is the father of our Mo. They are great dogs.
