We recently spent a wonderful week in the area - we had a great time on the beach and being lazy. But our favorite pass-time was sampling the wonderful restaurants on 30A. Thought I would share our "Best Of 30A Dining" - no way this is a conclusive list (we were only there for a week afterall) but thought your responses would give us some new ideas for our next trip or we could help out newcomers. Anyway here goes:
Best Overall - Stinky's Fish Camp --- casual atmosphere, but food to rival any of the best fine dining restaurant
Best First Stop /Best View --- Bud & Alleys Tarpon Club --- Fast becoming a tradition for us to stop first at B&A. But the $5.25 Coronas make it by necessity a brief stop! Guess the view is expensive...
Best Burger - Flip Flops --- can't beat an Angus beef burger
Best Margarita - Shortys --- fresh lime juice, not too sweet, not too tart (and 1000x better than the corn syrup concoction served up at Margaritaville in PBC!)
Most Romantic - Cafe Tango --- wonderful food, great atmosphere. A wonderful place to end the day.
Best Breakfast On The Go - Flip Flops --- lots of food for the money, creative breakfast burrito
Best Renovation - Shortys --- Who knew it could look so light and airy?! and the new color scheme just emphasizes the great views. Great job - can't wait to go back!
Cheapest Beer - Hurricanes --- guess the view doesn't cost too much
Best Sports Bar - Shades --- also some really good buffalo shrimp!
Best Tuna Dip - Bud & Alleys --- all the places we have tried in the Keys pale in comparison
Best Oysters - Acme Oyster House --- Technically not 30A, but the grilled oysters are worth a mention
Best Pizza - Pizza By the Sea, but Pizza Bar is a close second. Can't go wrong with either. (Pizza Bar might have won, but had to take points off for the faulty air conditioning - had to be below 70 inside - all the glass was fogged up and I actually saw one girl put the napkin across her shoulders as a shawl)
Best Fried Shrimp - Stinkys --- so good I had it twice
Best Sound Track - Radio Margaritavillle --- perfect fit for a beach vacation
Best BBQ - Jambones ---- too much food and so many great alternatives on the menu. Next time I want to try the fired shrimp (no way hubby will skip the bbq!)
Best TexMex Fix - Taco Bar --- and it's fast! Great place for a quick lunch or late dinner after a day on the beach
Best Last Stop / Best People Watching - The Red Bar ---- Good basic breakfast, and really good Bloody Marys (for those of us not driving) That last view of the beach at Grayton makes you think twice about leaving.
Know we have missed a lot of great locations --- can't wait to get back to try new places and revisit our favorites!
