I infrequently have opportunity to get out but am coming to the beach in a couple months...Wonder if any of you can give me your recommendations for good sunglasses with best UV and other protection. Suggestions would be appreciated. I have been hunting for a new pair of affordable Ray Bans on line. I am a woman but don't want any cat eyes with rhinestones...Thanks...:dunno:

My eyes are sensitive to glare so my only criteria is that they be polarized. I don't step outside in daylight without them. Also, you can see through the surface of the water better with them.

If I pay more than $20 for a pair I will lose or scratch them within a month. Cheap ones will last me a year or two. My only Ray Bans (years ago) became a gift to Neptune on a fishing trip the first week!

I like Costa Del Mars's but they are going to cost over $100.

ditto. guaranteed for life. mine are probably 5 years old and I wear them everyday I go outside. the rubber wore off the ear grabbers, and I returned them for repairs, (outside warranty), and they replaced the rubber making them like new for $12. They offered the option of new lenses, too, for an upcharge, but my lenses are fine. Just last week, I noticed a need for new nose grips, so I will send them off again for repair. Divide the cost over 5 years, and that is like someone buying a cheap (maybe harmful) pair of glasses every year. Love 'em.

The best thing you can do for yourself is invest in a good pair of sunglasses. The sun and sand combination here is very bright and I get severe headaches if I dont wear them (even when just going to the mailbox). I am the very opposite of justalocal, if I dont spend alot on a pair I will go thru them like crazy, easily spending as much as a good pair in a summer. My choice is "Maui Jim" but they will set you back alot. I think Sunglass Hut has many styles of them for about $150.

I generally buy cheap ones too because I tend to abuse them. However, mr. dd bought me a pair of Ray Bans a couple of years ago and although I don't LOVE the style, I swear by them. The dog even chewed on them at one point and we sent them for repair and they didn't charge a thing. I really think they just replaced them. They were pretty mangled.

I've heard that these are the way to go. Now I just need to get some.

Your quote reminds me for no apparent reason of some grafitti I saw as a teenager...The quote was Communism is Jewish"...I still get headaches fantasizing about the thought process that dervived that....Anyway Thanks for the info.....

I have a pair of Maui Jims that I love. But I bought a pair made by Magellan(sp?) for half the price of the Maui Jims and I actually prefer them.

I have an obsessive thing about sunglasses (and watches).

My wife just bought a pair of these stupid-looking Versace shades with rinestones all over them. She looks ridiculous.

JB--you sound like the clone of DH. Sunglesses and watches:rotfl:As for Maui Jims, them too, only recently having bought a pair in the caribbean which had the built in bifocal. Thought they were great till a few months of wear (Daily) the nose guards (rubber) started to loosen and come off, and finally losing one and then discarding the other. The up side of this story, is BEFORE he couldn't keep this film off them, thus cleaning constantly. Now without them they don't have the film, go figure.
