Thanks Smiling Joe. Appreciate the info. Sure wish I owned a place down there. Would love to be there right now. I am sure we will have fun riding and we will be sure to watch for the cars backing out of the driveways. So much for the right of way!
Drivers of cars actually pay closer attention to bikes on the road than on the bike path. That is just one reason I ride prefer to ride the road, but I don't putz around when I am on the road. I do get the occasional cussing out or close graze from some drivers, but the road is also a legal place to ride a bicycle the last time I checked. Another reason I ride the road is that when riding a road bike, the road is a much smoother ride than the bike path.ladydebubba60 said:Thanks Smiling Joe. Appreciate the info. I can vouch for that. I've almost been wiped out on numerous occasions. Even though there are striped areas on the bike path to indicate the bike path crossing, drivers tend to stop their cars on top of the bike path before pulling onto 30-A. Most of the time they appear to only be looking at the road for vehicles before pulling out, forgetting to look at the path for humans. Be particularly careful where there is heavy foliage close to the path that obscures their vision (like at S. Dothan Avenue in Seagrove). I just assume that they won't stop for me, and even it appears that they will, I don't proceed until I make eye contact with them and get a go-ahead nod.Smiling JOe said:A word of advice, when on the bike path running along 30A, be extremely careful when approaching all driveways which cross the path because the majority of vehicles don't stop before the bike path. You can quickly be flipped over the hood. Also be aware that most drivers turning off of 30A do not yield to bikers on the bike path. Slow as you approach and be prepared to stop if need be.
When I was there in May of '05 we rented our bikes from The Ice House in Seagrove they were really helpful. They delivered and Picked up our bikes. It was like 35.00 for 3 days for an old timey bike w/basket. 30A was great for casual bike ride. I am proof of that, hadn't been on a bike in years. We rode from Seagrove, stopped for breakfast in Seaside, continued to Grayton stopping at all the shops along the way. For the return had packed some small coolers w/lunch and picnicked at Grayton Beach State Park only a $1.00 or 2 for bikers. Then headed back to Seagrove. It's beautiful riding along the lake and the fall you should have perfect weather for a bike ride. Have Fun. We loved it and can't wait to come back and do it all over again.ladydebubba60 said:We vacation at Inlet Beach in Walton County every fall. Wondering if anyone can tell me where there are any good bicycle paths that we can go riding on. Either in PC Beach or towards 30A. Thanks.
