As of April 1, 2007 For The Health Of It will implement the use of fully bio-degradable Corn Based Grocery Bags in the store as well as Corn Based Cups and Lids for our Smoothie & Juice Bar. While these products cost more up-front, the impact or lack thereof on the Environment is well worth it. We still encourage our customers to re-use the bags as often as possible, and are still happy to take them back for re-use.

Once thrown away, these products fully bio-degrade within 90 days in a landfill.

Please encourage all your friends to ask other retailers to consider the switch. We will be more than happy to supply the information on the products for all.

Peace and Health

Rachel and Ed

Reminds me of a history lesson. George Washington Carver was crazy about anything to do with peanuts, and he invented plastic made from peanuts way before we ever came along. Henry Ford actually had a trunk of a prototype car made from the peanut plastic which Carver invented. Why we weren't using this technology long ago, is well beyond me. My guess is that politricks and the white man's knowledge of there being an extremely intelligent black man in the world, was too scary for the white man to fathom. Edison and Ford were buddy, buddy, and I think it was Edison who brought light :)idea:) to Carver's invention and showed it to Ford.

Good job, Peaboy, on the corn based bags. :clap_1: I hate seeing so many plastic bags floating around. It seems such a waste. I encouraged WaterColor Publix to make reusuable canvas bags available for purchase a year or so ago, and they listened, though I rarely see the public using them. It takes a little bit of work to change our habits. I may grab a bag from you the next time I am in so that I can conduct a little experiment with decomposition.

As luck would have it I saw a brief spot on these bags on TV last night. They said they cost roughly a nickel as compared to a penny for the plastic bags. I will gladly pay 16 to 20 cents per trip to the grocery if it spares those sad bags hung up in trees and clumped in the ditch. Hope they stand up to dog poop.:rotfl:

You are ahead of the curve peaboy. In San Fran, they're still in the talking phase:

I keep meaning to get canvas bags, but don't know how many is enough, and I keep putting it off. Like Skunky I would gladly pay more for bags that easily biodegrade. :clap_1:
