Birmingham directions

I know I'm taking a stab in the dark that anyone reading this has been or lives in Birmingham, AL.

I map quested a route and have a VERY old atlas, so maybe some experienced drivers can clue me in on this.
Does 331 go all the way through to AL? Then hop on 65 north?
Ok, once there, someone must know the best place to shop. Throw me a bone, please!

Everyone has their favorite route. I've tried them all, and they all seem to wind up taking about the same amount of time, at least for me. I've settled on the simplest - 331 to Montgomery, short run west on 231 to I-65, then on up to Bham.

On Sunday, I was glad to avoid 65. Post T-day traffic had it congested, while 331 was a breeze.
