Block Island vacation

http://www.mcsweeneys.net/links/wine/8.html I lived for about 18 months in Newport RI while in the service. Standing on the bridge wing, gazing through binoculars, Block Island loomed far off in the distance. Has anyone been there?

I got close, but never made it over there. Mr. DD's been though. Said it was very cool. I'll ask more details tonight.

IF I remember correctly, there is a park near Newport across from Block Island where everyone goes and flies kites...I've been there...but not to Block Island. What's the "walK" called that runs behind all the HUGE Newport Estates?? And there is a bar downtown that the ceilings are VERY VERY low, makes you realize the peeps were MUCH shorter in "those" days ....

My cousin did one of those destination weddings and that's where she destined. It's a pain in the butt to get there because of the ferry but once you're there it's gorgeous.
