Bp continues to implement a strategy to reduce compensations paid out by the GCCF. It is becoming a form of "bailout" for another mega wealthy and politically powerful mega corporation. I believe that most Americans would have demanded emergency federal legislation to increase the liability amounts of OPA in the beginning. BP circumvented this by advertising a committment to a 20 billion dollar fund to be paid out to those that could document their loses. President Obama and Congress bought the snake oil. Now without government oversight or federal legislation BP is in complete control of deceptive information flow, methodologies designed to reduce BP's liability and renewed profits for their executives and stockholders. I work on some politician just about every week letting them know that corporate bailouts from negligent corporations are not acceptable. Voters will not stomach another "bailout". Especially mainstreet america who continues to struggle to find sales revenue at the expense of those negligent mega corporations who have damaged our economy in the first place. Small business america has the whole weight of the economy on their shoulders. These bailouts will eventually break the backbone of our economy. We can agree to disagree on who is to blame but I would rather just find a way to fix this problem of any business being too big to fail. We have to develop community leaders to help us. We need to find common ground in our political beliefs to provide a consenus on issues that negatively affect our economy and make the necessary corrections to the market place. BP gas prices are generally higher at the pump. They are so big that they can actually control their pricing to some extent. Please write, email or call Scott, Southerland, Rubio, Nelson, Holder, Bondi and our President and let them know your thoughts. Our economy is at stake. Our envirnoment is at stake. Our childrens future is at stake.

Is there a link to the announcement? I agree wholeheartedly. I didn't have a claim so i don't follow what's going on much anymore. I would imagine there are many people that have truly suffered economic devastation who feel that BP is not only 'too big to fail' but also feeling like 'they're too big to fight'. :bang:

Glad to hear that our local economy is doing so well that it has fully recovered and has no need of ANY BP monies.

Puck that.

And this is an article by the guy who was the special counsel for Florida. He figured the state should get $2 billion from BP. Scott settled for $30 million and seems to have ignored all the work he did.

I usually go to any internet search engine and type in "GCCF claims news". I am not yet Sowal forum worthy in supplying links. I should take the time to figure that out some day.

Rubio just held a public news conference in Pensacola in reaction to the BP announcement. The Mississippi AG filed a lawsuit to request GCCF to open their books for transparency last week. Our AG is MIA. Eric Holder also met with Feinberg last week to discuss the failures of GCCF. Nelson continues to pressure the Whitehouse for more oversight. It is good to see that Rubio is now involved. People do make a difference. I believe that we need to hammer away at this being a form of a bailout because it will get traction. The complete campaign by BP to use toxic dispersants was the beginning of a very deceptive ploy to reduce their liabilities. They have never released the exact chemical composition of those dispersants so they can not be tested for until they become so dilute that it will be deemed "safe". The damage has been done and may not show up for years in the complex Gulf ecosystems. BP has successfully found ways to force people into signing a release of future liability.

I am also starting to ask questions about where is the EPA? What protection are they providing us? I know Sowal wants to move on from the oil spill stuff so I try to keep my comments focused on our elected officials but because I feel a strong sense of community in this forum I let this thread slip out.

Thanks scooterbug44 for the links. The link about the difference in Rick Scott and Charlie Crist is exactly what I have found to be true in my attempted correspendence with the Gov's office. Crist and McCollum answered everyone of my questions. Nelson usually replies with a personalized note regarding his efforts. There is no response from Scott. The response from Bondi is, "there is nothing more we can do". They have not done anything that I know of. Why is it that Mississippi's AG can file suit but our AG can do nothing more?

I read a lot of articles that seemed to indicate that the exact chemical composition was still unknown but that was about two weeks ago. I assumed that it was a patent infringement or something. Do you know what the chemical breakdown is and whether EPA is testing?

Okay thanks. There still seems to be some secrecy in the full list of chemicals. If EPA can not list all chemicals then how are we to know what to test for outside the EPA's partial list? I guess we are just supposed to have faith in the EPA...
