Another person said it was slow, but beautiful. I agree with the message and I think I loved the film Rent for the same reasons---tolerance and acceptance of people no matter how different they may be from us.
Mermaid said:"Rent" is my teenage daughter's favorite movie. :clap_1: She loves everything about it. She saw Brokeback Mountain and said it was very sad. I'm glad she's moved past the teeny bopper flicks onto films that provoke discussion.
Tootsie said:the movie is "lifechanging". I can't stop thinking about it, analyzing the characters, thinking of so many others who have lived similar stories throughout history, thinking that love is love between any two people, and how can so much hatred be in our world, in our own country (bigotry, ignorance, homophobia), how could this happen in our society? The reaction of some people to the movie, who haven't seen it and who refuse to see it, shows that there is still much ignorance (or intolerance) even today.
in other words, it's a thought provoking movie. It is not a "chick flick" as some guy friend of mine put it as he was saying he wasn't interested in seeing it. it is a beautiful, heartbreaking story, with outstanding actors and incredible cinematography.
I simply loved it. I want to see it again very soon.

Tolerence was not very high back in the 60's & 70's...I would like to think people are more tolerent these days...but still very afraid of what they consider "abnormal" ::any kind of love is normal...as long as the individuals involved are happy with the situation and are not hurting any one else...LOVE IS LOVE...pure and simple!
