I saw a cream-colored mantis recently in Croatia.
I've always thought praying mantises were so cool.
I saw some big ones when I was a kid in California, never saw them in the wild in Colorado though. That's rather intimidating that they could snag a bird!
But that's the predator/prey relationship for you I guess--not always pretty.

We used to have an aphid problem. I bought so many ladybugs to release that they finally developed their own little colony in our Denver backyard, and I'd see the babies in spring. We did manage to defeat the aphids.
If you ever see tiny primitve orange-and-black creatures that look like little dragons, don't kill them! Those are infant ladybugs.
