So. Ameican Top Model and Suvivor have combined ratings that blow away most of the other reality shows.
Basically there is a big umbrella of misdirected and disenfranchized folks who can't handle the Progressive Movement undefoot right now in the U.S. they don't want to believe in change--change is very freightening to them!
It has nothing to do with not being able to "handle" the liberal/progressive movement, it has to do with rejecting what that movement stands for. Generally though I agree with the point of the previous sentence, far too many people in this country don't take an interest and instead choose to let the political winds blow around them.
Some have even surfaced on SoWal since the last election.....
Its like if a hurricane is approaching--ya going to The Weather Channel or reruns of I love Lucy?? People want to feel safe against a black President, wise Latinas in the S.C., Gays in the military, the "new" socialist reforms of healthcare, and on and on....
I'll try to take this one topic at a time - I can only speak for myself but I don't feel particularly unsafe with Obama in the White House, assuming we are talking about national defense.
As far as the SC is concerned, I seriously doubt race has much to do with it (Clarence Thomas for example, is without a doubt the wisest justice on the Court) it has to do with jurisprudence and interpretation.
Gays in the military? I assume you're taking about the recent hate crime legislation? Or something else? As far as gays in the military go, we've got em. God bless'em if they are fighting for our country right now. How the military deals with that situation is an interesting problem. But as long as Obama continues to defer from repealing "don't ask don't tell", they have little to deal with. (Where's the outrage on this board over Obama's hollow promises to the LGB community?)
As far as "socialist" healthcare reform goes, IMHO there's nothing new about it, socialism has a long history of failure from which you can pull ideas from, if that's your preference. I personally don't see current reform initiatives as socialist however, I see them as liberal. A majority of the current initiatives revolve around the concept of wealth redistribution, nothing else. Except the public option of course, which has a base that's cemented in socialist constructs, hence why it must be excluded from reform or closed down at some point once initiated.
Does Fox's domination on TV represent real power at the polls? I will just wait for a graph from 30Ashopper.
I seriously doubt it, sorry no graphs though. I'd guess the decline in popularity of the democrats in congress and the current president have to do with their on the job performance, not Fox News. (Last time I checked the democrat figure head - Nancy Pelosi, had an approval rating hovering around 30%.) Generally I'd say both parties have a lot of work to do in trying to gain respect back, nobody seems to trust anybody in Washington right now. Although in generic party confidence polls Republicans are out ahead according the Rasmussen. That's a positive development in my book.
Next year's mid-terms will be interesting. Debates and primaries start kicking off in a few months, are you ready for another election year!
