Calls for Cease fire in SoWal - PCB conflict
Calls for a cease fire in the escalating SoWal and Panama City Beach message boards conflict continue.
Tourists continue to flee the Florida Panhandle in the face of a mounting war of words between the SoWal and Panama City Beach message boards. This current round of verbal violence was initiated by a comment on the PCB board questioning the quality of sushi restaurants in south Walton.
Tensions between south Walton and Panama City Beach go back many years, often escalating into open taunting and mockery. The core issue behind the conflict is the type of development practiced in south Walton versus that of Panama City Beach. The conflict began years ago when a south Walton style community, Carillon Beach was built across the Bay county line- infringing on territory that Panama City Beach residents felt was theirs, and should be developed as high density condominiums.
SoWal leader Kirk summed up the fight, "Look at how we are surrounded by high density condominium communities -they want to turn us into another Miami. Carillon provides us with a buffer. This is about our very survival!"
Heavy hitter Swinging Johnson isn?t playing nice "Those PCB folks just need to be put in their place and if I have to be the one to do it, so much the better. I?m not afraid to be a dick." Echoing this sentiment were posters Tooty, AlleyFun, JohnArse, and Dork.
There are dissenting voices on both sides. SoWaller Selley says "I warned them it would come to this; my recommendation is that everybody sell now and get the hell outa this place!"
Regional players are trying to stay out of this fight.
Southern super-city Atlanta sends millions of investment dollars annually to south Walton. Spokesposter CondoLeaserNice of Peaches for Beaches a pro-Walton advocacy group said, "We urge restraint on behalf of the thousands of innocent tourists; however, south Walton has the right to defend itself -and that sushi comment was way out of line."
As is always the case in these conflicts, it is the tourists who suffer. Said visiting Bob Hawkins "It?s just sad that this land that was the birthplace of such creative philosophies as New Urbanism could now turn to such viciousness."
Analysts removed from the fighting have noted a hidden reason likely responsible for the current escalation in tensions - the gay agenda. They note the active role being played by 30-gAy; a poster who has consistently worked to stir up the level of tension in the region.
"The only group who stands to benefit from this crisis are the gays. If they can drive out a substantial number of people from this traditionally family oriented vacation destination, then they are opening up the area to homo-colonization. The same thing happened to Key West a few decades ago."
