Hi all; Any suggestions on calm canoeing on blackwater river? The wifey is pregnant, and while we're experienced with remote north georgia canoeing I don't want to risk any rapids or rough areas. I see that there are two main outfitters - adventures unlimited and blackwater canoe rental. Any thoughts on them? It looks like adventures unlimited runs coldwater creek which is faster/rougher, while blackwater canoe runs blackwater river which is calmer. We will be in the area around 12-1pm Saturday. Thanks all!!

The Blackwater is very calm with sandy beaches, and is likely to have more people. The only rapids I know of in Florida is a short stretch on the Suwanee.

Good to know! We prefer more remote canoeing, the fewer the people the better. Any issues with dogs in the state park areas?

You need to check each state park to see if dogs are allowed. http://www.floridastateparks.org/findapark/district-northwest.cfm
Yes, they say dogs allowed, but some places are very strict about leash laws. You really shouldn't have your dog on a leash inside of a canoe, they can get caught and dragged underwater in a river. Here in georgia they're very understanding about this.. But I've heard some florida state parts will issue tickets over non leashed dogs. Anytime we are out of the water he is leashed.
