Unfortunately I predict a low turn out. People are so busy worrying about DC they don't see what's in their own backyard. Local elections and the decisions local officials make affect your life way more than Aid to Syria does. Sadly most people will put little effort into educating themselves and we will continue our streak of bad local government. Traffic, Drainage, infrastructure and local safety and rules enforcement affect your life more than DC ever does. (Not that DC isn't important) The rules have to be followed and they have to be enforced fairly and not based on who you know or it will never work. Harmony will never reign in the County if some kind of fix is in the system. I've heard some commissioners say the county government is their family. Guess what, (former teacher) family government is and has been called Monarchy's forever and they had Kings and Queens. That system didn't work if you will remember and kind of set this whole America thing in motion. To those out there who won't demand better local government, don't ever think you are the people that will change DC and it's narcissistic ways. You aren't. Get educated. About 25 connected people call the shots in this county, sadly none of them are elected. But some of our officials don't breathe without asking the fabled 25's permission. Look at the contributions of LOCAL candidates and see that it costs less than 100k to call shots in Walton county. In district 5 for example I think there is over 8 billion in real estate, do you as citizens want your land portfolio managed by and educated and credentialed land planner with a masters degree or do you want it managed by the mailman. If all of it were yours who would you pick. Most of the races are that simple if you choose to educate......those who don't, we'll you probably believe Bill didn't "have sex with that woman" and hillary was under sniper fire when she visited bosnia.

I read your post in it's entirety. It made sense, but also, it didn't. I agree completely that this county election is far, far more important than the national election. I have friends, who are lifetime democrats who are registering as republicans just to be a part of this coming election. IT IS THAT IMPORTANT! The changes that will occur in this election cycle are unprecedented. What I want from you, and everybody on this message board, is straight talk. Just say who is right. on the primary issues, and who is wrong. Condense it, for the many of us who are befuddled by too much info about "visioning" and vendors. Straight talk, please.

We have done our part in organizing and promoting this forum. Hopefully your prediction of a low turnout is wrong.

I hope I am wrong on this one Mr. Hudson. Damn, Lakeview I couldn't have called district 5 any plainer. Mr Anderson is not even a taxpayer and is clearly bough by the same people that are involved in almost every county scandal. Two good choices in district 1, Kramer and Fletcher- Kramer has many political enemies unfortunately as he has great knowledge on many issues. I think Fletcher is a hard move towards more open and responsible government that answers to the people as a whole and not special interests. If fletcher wins, I hope he puts Kramer back on the planning board where he can ask the tough questions. Staight enough lake view? My selection in district 3 will depend greatly on debate questions and openness. I will not vote for Imfeld.....recycled toilet paper. I wish the candidates would get on here like Hudson, McGee, Osborne and many others did back in the day when I was a troll. Those people weren't afraid to tackle the issues, truthfully most who posted openly here lost.

I have had the opportunity to speak to every candidate for the BCC in this election, except for the incumbents, who felt they couldn't meet because of the topics. People have agendas, and to think yours are the only correct ones are ridiculous. Educating not only the voters but the candidates about the issues that are important to a wider population is effective, but in the end those that run for office will vote how they feel is in their best interest as will the voter. I think the flier the WCTA put out is a good example of issues that maybe close to the heart of many on this board, pro and con. I very seldom complain about the will of the voters but I think even Bob Hudson will tell you when it comes to elected officials you have to be prepared to work with whoever is in office whether you voted for them or not. I do not see a low voter turnout in this election, of course the primary will determine all but one of the BCC seats. There are a lot of Candidates for 1st Congressional District and a 2 Candidates for District 4 House seat.

Where did I say mine was the only correct one??? Stop putting words in peoples mouth just cause you don't like it. If you have met with all the candidates and spoken to them why not tell us what they said instead of sharpshooting my opinion. Lake view asked for honesty and he got it from me, you just handed out more rhetoric. The current BCC, all but one, offer a work with us attitude of "we are always right and if you don't like it sue us" mentality. Don't believe it ask the county for a copy of the legal matrix. It's 4 times the size of bay county with a lot less population. Don't think there are agenda's? Why do you think the developer and the BCC have pushed the Sandestin compliance hearing until after the primaries? They don't want accountability when they are sued for not enforcing the laws and ordinances.

Do you need a whining towel because I have an opinion different than yours. I get it that because Mr Anderson has the backing of the small business group so that means you like Ms Meadows or Ms Stevenson. I do like Ms Meadows and speaking with Mr Anderson like him also although we disagree on some issue. You don't like Mr Imfeld because he is "recycled toilet paper" not sure what that means, but obviously you like Ms Nipper or Mr Dixon. I do like Mr Imfeld and Mr Dixon although I have different opinion than he on an issue. Mr Fletcher IMO is by far the best candidate I spoke with, Mr Kramer may have been awesome on the planning board but he was little all over the place for me at our meeting. Mr Bryan was interesting and does have concern for what goes on in the county. Unfortunately I was unable because of some of the question that were being asked to meet with the incumbents. Ms Walline was not interviewed as she was a late entry and the schedule for meeting with the candidates had been set. My point is that I went into my meeting with the folks we were able to meet with an agenda. The discussion wasn't about beach related issues, it wasn't about infrastructure, it wasn't about guns, it wasn't about incorporation. For me it was about public safety, advocating for the women and men who do these jobs. Each one came in one at a time and sat down and we talked, wasn't any hatchet jobs, no screen names, we were able to look everyone that attended in the eye and talk. Obviously not everyone agreed with our positions but this is the process we go through.
