I need recommendations for car insurance. We always used State Farm, but their rates here seem really high. Any experiences (good or bad) with Geico, Progressive or others? We're renters, so homeowners' discounts are not an issue.

I've used Geico for a couple of years now, every time my insurance renews it goes down.

They've obviously never driven 30A in July! :D

Seriously, thanks to you and 2bohemes for your input. I'll look into both.

I used GEICO for almost 25 years for cars and home; never had a claim of any kind...then once I had a claim, I had to take them to court to get them to pay., Not a good experience for me, so I cancelled and now I use Progressive for car insurance. No claims, but their price for what I needed/wanted was the best once I moved here.

good luck.

For many years, I used State Farm, but after the way in which they handled MS and LA homeowner claims, and the way they treated FL homeonwers, I fired them and now use GEICO. There customer service has been good, but I haven't filed a claim.

I used Geico for years until they did me wrong. I ended up going with AIG. After my car was stolen and quite a few checks were written to fix the car my payments have not increased at all. I am VERY happy with AIG.

A few years ago when I quit my job to go to graduate school, car insurance was a definite issue! I searched and searched.......we are now with Safeco. They have really good ratings. The price was the lowest we found, while not sacrificing service. Geico is notorious for poor claims service, as is progressive. At the time, we were paying car insurance for myself, hubbie, and 2 stepsons. Our bill was outrageous! We saved a good $1000/year after switching to Safeco. We have been very pleased. Although, we have not submitted any claims.

Good Luck!

PS-- My best friend is an agent with State Farm. They are simply too high.

Thanks to all for your input. Was not familiar with Safeco or that MetLife handled car insurance. It's good to have options.
