The Census Bureau is desperate for workers in Walton County.
I recently applied for a job with the Census Bureau. The man giving the tests said that they couldn't get enough people to apply in Walton County and that they would likely be bussing workers in from Alabama. You don't have to travel to Pensacola to apply like the website says. They are here in the county taking applications and administering tests. You must pass the test to be hired. The job pays $12.00 per hour and .50 cents per mile. Scheduling is flexible and you can work 20-40 hrs per week depending on what you want to do. If you are interested call the United States Census Bureau at 850-208-7330 and schedule a time to submit your application and take the test.

This is so important for Walton County. We were undercounted 40% during the last census for a number of reasons. Be sure to tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers to complete their census questionnaire and be sure to list a Walton County address. An accurate count translates into money and fair representation for the people of Walton County.

I took the test and passed. Got a call yesterday and I was hired. Go for training March 15-19, not sure where yet. I am excited about this adventure. Maybe I will meet some of you out there!

You've got the right attitude for the job. You are going to meet a lot of neat people, a few mean ones and a few scary ones, but as long as you are always aware of your surroundings, you will have an excellent adventure:D

Thanks for the encouragement! I have heard horror stories from some people; but, I am NOT going to let these comments deter me. I know some people have some strong privacy issues and I hope to convince them of the importance of being counted. I am not sure about some of the places where NO TRESPASSING signs are posted or BEWARE OF VICIOUS DOGS. Hope to learn in training how to handle these situations, if any. Thanks, again.

I worked for the 1980 Census, and they didn't even train us back then! If we were assigned to go to sketchy neighborhoods, we always partnered up, one to drive the getaway car and one to knock on doors. This was of course in the PCP era (Pre Cell Phone).

I don't think the pay was by the hour for what we were doing, it was essentially piece work-- a certain amount for each short form and more for each long form you were able to complete and turn in.
