 Aww, y'all. It's my job. But I do enjoy certain aspects of it.
You're too sweet.

Wednesday night update:

There were MORE! Some from Monday, some I hadn't even met before. They ate every last bean in the chili--we had to scrape the bottom of the pan. They ate all the bread, all the salad. We had two brownies left.
It was so much funn--they applauded and thanked us over and over. There sure were some cute folks there. So cute.

Looks like I need to road trip it to Texas and we can do a dinner for them....no....I don't mean I will cook.....but I can wear my cute apron and help serve. I still need to see that resort that is close to Grapevine, what was the name of it? Just don't let FFF go to that church while we are there. :D

I can't read this thread all way through but I thank you DD, for your personal attention that you give to these residents. It is people like you who go that extra mile and help people like me, feel better about their loved one living alone and without family nearby.

I was one of those adult children who lived 800 miles away and was only able to visit my dad twice a year for 3 - 4 days each time. I cannot tell you how it ripped my heart out to leave my dad, knowing he would not have anyone visit him until the next time I was down. I hoped and prayed and dreamed that the staff visited with him. And not just because they had to but because they wanted to.

He loved when the local library stopped by every 2 weeks to deliver his stack of books he'd requested (thank goodness he had his eyesight until the very end). The driver stayed and visited with him for a few minutes each time.

It's people like you, the library driver, the cooks, the cna's, the office managers, that are the "family" for our loved ones. God bless you.

btw, I haven't written a check in probably 5 years!
