mr. audie and i went to cincinnati to see the cirque du soleil show called quidam yesterday afternoon. we have seen their shows mystere and o that are in las vegas, but wanted to see their touring show, so we got tix. of course mr audie ordered the vip tix (money is no object to him - he doesn't pay the bills) which included a hospitality suite called the tapis rouge, whatever the heck that is. more on that later. we left after watching the space shuttle launch, dropped the dog off at mom and pops and headed for cincy. the show was in these movable tents that actually look like circus tents, set up on an empty lot between the paul brown stadium where the bengals play, and the great american ball park where the reds play.

we could enter the tapis rouge tent at 3, show started at 4. they had all kinds of fancy schmancy appetizers and finger foods. i had an edible orchid filled with chicken salad, and some fried ravioli that were stuffed with cheese and jalapenos (bad idea, no antacids handy). we had the most fun watching the people eat - it was like a school of piranha in a feeding frenzy, i am guessing these people fasted for a week in preparation. one older lady who must have been 70 yrs old or so and weighed in at 70 lbs soaking wet must have eaten my weight in food, she ate from one end of the tent to the other. it was hilarious.

we went to our seats about 3:30, and boy was it hot in that tent. the tix said "climate-controlled" - not sure what that meant unless it meant "no fans or air". we were packed in like sardines and everyone there had sweat pouring off them. i don't know how the performers could stand it.

now for the show - it was awesome ! the things these people can do. there was a guy who did tricks in a spere-type object that looked like 2 hula hoops attached about 6 inches apart to make slats for him to have hand and foot holds. there were little chinese girls who twirled these things that resembled giant sewing bobbins on a string, people doing tricks on ropes and scarves hanging from the ceiling, gymnastics, and i don't know what all else.

if you have never seen a cirque show, i highly recommend seeing one. they aren't cheap tix, but the shows are so amazing. the band and singing are done live for every show, and the music is always so cool. there is quite a bit of audience participation, they selected i think 6 people from the audience last night. they always have some type of character that comes out about 5-10 mins before showtime and he messes with the people that are arriving late, like taking them to the wrong seat, guiding them all over the stage, and things like that. the show last night was 2 hours long, they performed for one hour, had a 30 min. intermission, then performed for another hour.

i will try to post some downtown cincy pics i took if i can figure it out.

all in all not considering the heat, it was an excellent show and well worth seeing. the tour is headed to st. louis next for you missouri posters - catch it if you can, you won't be sorry !

Your report was very entertaining, Audie!
I know there are several different Cirque shows; yours sounds a lot like the one we saw.
We saw them one January (in Colorado), certainly not VIP, and I thought we'd be freezing in those outdoor tents, but all the body heat kept us warm.

i wish we would have been freezing yesterday :D i like the shows in las vegas because they have their own dedicated theaters and they seats are nice and comfy etc. i bout crapped when mr audie said he got vip tix, they were nice seats in the 3rd row, but i have found that at these shows, the higher back you are the better you can see because there is so much going on all around the stage....
