Coastal Dune Lake Day at Grayton Beach State Park
When: Saturday, October 21, 2017
Time: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Where: Grayton Beach State Park

Walton County Coastal Dune Lake Advisory Board is hosting Coastal Dune Lake Day at Grayton Beach State Park on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10:00 am til 2:00 pm. The community is invited to come out for a celebration of South Walton area coastal dune lakes on the shores of Western Lake in Grayton Beach. The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance will have a booth full of information about how to protect the dune lakes, as well as a few tanks of native dune lake marine life.

Meet CDLA members, friends and community groups at the boat launch parking lot for an great day in the park. Explore and learn about our rare coastal dune lakes from many of our local environmental groups. Explore through activities planned on the shores and in the water at Western Lake which lies within Grayton Beach State Park.

The day will be filled with activities and exhibits by many of our local groups, environmental experts, and plenty of recreation. Look for informational and interactive exhibits by many of our local groups and organizations. Coastal Dune Lake Day is free and open to the public with park admission of $5/car. Donations to the Friends of Grayton Beach State Park are appreciated. Grayton Beach State Park is located on Scenic Hwy. 30A between CR283 and Seaside.

Grayton Beach State Park is one of the most popular state parks in Florida, with massive dunes, winding trails, abundant wildlife, and shimmering 100-acre Western Lake, one of many coastal dune lakes gracing Scenic Highway 30A along Scenic 30A in South Walton (SoWal). Read more about this beautiful state park at SoWal.com/Parks.

Perhaps the most unique and precious features of SoWal are the coastal dune lakes found in our area’s beach dune system.

The rare lakes are reportedly found only along the coasts of New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar, and in the United States along the coasts of Oregon, South Carolina, and Northwest Florida. South Walton's 15 coastal dune lakes hug the coast, embedded in our dune ecosystems. Most lake levels fluctuate due to rainfall and when overly full, open to flush fresh water in to the Gulf.

Can we get the date in the title of the thread changed to Oct. 21? Some people might think it has already happened.
