Dunelover, you are an amazing and courageous woman. thank you for sharing with your sowal friends. you may have saved a life through your story. thank you much. keep us posted on your recovery. we are all thinking of you!!!

Amazing, courageous and SELFLESS! I can't believe you are concerned about others while going through this. Thank you so much for giving us in Sowal the opportunity to know you.

Dunelover, please keep a positive outlook. Laugh as much as you can. Dream about and plan your future. Don't give up Sowal. There may be a short delay but if you want it, you can still make it your future.

As most know, I went through cancer with my dad and we went to Mayo Clinic. I am a big believer in the power of positive and have been for decades. I have also been a pharmacist for 30 years and was a health fraud investigator for 13 years. I was shocked at how much info was at Mayo clinic about the power of the mind and the outcome of disease. They recommend laughter, music therapy (calming music), positive affirmations and meditation tapes among other things. They even gave my dad meditation tapes with positive affirmations during his chemo.

I'm so glad that you are going to MD Anderson. They have a "mind body intervention" program and are doing a lot of research on the subject. I hope you will look into any literature that they provide on the subject.

?There is extensive evidence that stress suppresses cell-mediated immunity, a component of the immune system involved in tumor surveillance.? Dr. Cohen, MD Anderson

Researchers at M. D. Anderson are using animal models to evaluate how psychological stress impacts disease processes and outcomes.

Here's a good article from the University of Maryland.

Researchers must often get funding from "closed" minds and the focus of a lot of the ongoing studies are focused on stress and it's affects but it goes much deeper. There is evidence that what we have traditionally called the "placebo effect" in medicine has a much greater impact than we thought years ago. The placebo effect is basically, if you believe that something is going to help you, it does.

If you believe that you will beat this thing and be moving to sowal, I'm convinced that you can.

Let me say that I am not advocating ANY alternative medicine without the support of your medical docors (meaning MD's). There are many charletans out there who deter people from proven medical treatment by selling dreams. I am merely suggesting what Hippocrates suggested many years ago as an adjunct to your medical treatment....

"The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well."

My love and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Please keep us posted.

Cork, I am sorry i took so long in responding to your post. I think I spend more time on sowal when I am not feeling good, and I had a few weeks of chemo for low counts so I spent my time doing fun things w/ my kiddos. Anyway, thank yu so much for your thoughtful and encouraging post. I believe in the mind/body healing and know that a positive outlook can help in healing. I am going to find some local resources for me. Prayer and staying in close relationship w/ my Lord helps me tremondously as well.

I have been denied at MD Anderson, in retrospect i think it might be a good thing for me. The thought was that I might have a neuroendocrine compononent to my cancer, however, it is unclear still. But, I found a group out of new orleans w/ the biggest researcher and patent holder Chief dr. in Neurondocrine. The group is Oschner, affiliated w/ LSU. I immediately got on their listserv and posted and the chief responded himself and asked me to call him on his cell. He was so helpful and kind and gave me so much peace. He feels like I am on the right chemo and gave me suggestions if I want one more pathologist to look at my slides. So, I feel like this would be the right place for me. Anyway, I am good. I have no tumors anywhere, my markers are good, and i have completed 5 of 12 rounds of chemo. I just have to hope and pray that it is "mopping up" any residual cells. I am boosting my own immune system as well, hoping that it will nock out some of the bad guys too.

Thanks to so many of you for your kind pm's and thoughts and prayers. I am going to beat this and see many of you in sowal next year!!!

Ahhh. thanks you guys. You know how to make a gull feel good. I am doing so well. It is hard to believe I am on chemo. I go tomorrow for treatment, but I know now that the side effects are not hitting me as bad so I am not worried. Just ready to get them all behind me. Tomorrow will be number 6 of 12. My incision has finally healed, so I am clear for the water---FINALLY. Sad thing is hubby may be too busy for a trip to sowal. Oh well, I will have a good trip after Christmas.

Got my hair cut short too and love it.....

Thanks for checking on me....I feel loved.
