They say you should not judge a book by its cover, but for movies, in particular, Confessions of a Shopaholic, I have prejudged it as BAD based on this movie trailer>>>'Confessions of a Shopaholic' Trailer No. 1 - Moviefone

Bad timing: The movie was made before the current deep recession was officially announced, but it shows how shallow, materialistic, status seeking, and glutenous we American's have become: Instant Gratification is what we seek out and what we are all about! Is this how you want your/our daughters raised???

Here are the "givens' per the movie trailer.......

1. Women are dummies who only derive pleasure from the act of shopping beyond their means.

2. The only thing young women believe in fighting for today are "sale" Gucci boots.

3. You don't ever need cash-- just need credit cards for all of your instant gratification--don't worry about what it cost until credit is stopped and/or your credit is ruined.

4. Real success in the world for a young woman mean the ability to be able to afford and wear name brands such as Prada.

Don't see this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds more like a documentary of the past 10-15 years--should be a PBS special.

When I saw the trailer for that movie, I thought the timing could not have been worse.

From the Boston Globe:

There's something vaguely tragic about a movie whose women (and a few men) are, by and large, strung out on buying designer stuff they can't afford. Maybe in a different economy that movie would seem less sobering. In this one, watching people shop madly seems a little sinister.

But who knows? Maybe there are enough moviegoers yearning for a return to shopaholism to buoy ticket sales. . . if they can come up with enough money to buy a ticket, that is.

Looks like a miss for me. Maybe a bad hybrid of a love story and The Devil Wears Prada?

Hmmm, I haven't seen the trailer, but agree that shopping beyond ones' means requires serious therapy. I haven't shopped for one and a half years - hasn't been difficult, but I must admit, it's getting old and I am ready for something new! :D

We should revert to a charge card as opposed to a credit card!
